I am an atheist who does not believe in souls or spirits. While I don't refer to myself as spiritual, I am somewhat sentimental with respect to certain religious ceremonies and activities that people engage in, such as prayer, meditation, dances, respect for nature, etc. I have sometimes heard atheists and materialists/atomists (those who don't believe in immaterial souls) refer to themselves as spiritual. This is usually because they think of themselves as contemplative and respectful of nature. It is confusing, in my opinion.

And sometimes people loosely refer to any ceremonial activities as spiritual.

Atheists don't have self assurance in non secular souls. They do have self assurance in nominal souls. A nominal soul is in basic terms existence as all of us comprehend it. non secular souls are of supernatural beginning and has been the midsection of discussion between the Believers and the nonbelievers. non secular souls are creations of surely the. There are 2 important descriptions of a non secular soul. the classic view of the soul is that this is similar to the spirit on my own. The Biblical view defines it by using fact the union of the spirit and the actual physique. in basic terms people have the two spirit and physique, hence we are non secular souls. A physique and not utilising a spirit isn't a soul and hence ineffective. A spirit and not utilising a physique remains not a soul and can't connect with the actual international. what's spirit? The spirit is the nonphysical area of our physique. It is composed of our innovations, will, and existence rigidity. The spirit interacts with the actual international during the innovations. it is the reason this is perplexed as innovations in early philosophies. i'm hoping this permits a perplexed soul. Godspeed!

there is only you conscience and a higher state of consciousness. The human Conscience is what Christians and other denominations call the soul, the only difference between the religious soul and the human conscience is that the conscience dies when you do, while you believe the soul lives forever. As an Atheist I believe spiritualism is just a higher sense of Consciousness, that this is enlightenment, you are one with yourself and free of religious and any other subjugation of the mind. You are emancipated from the hive of dictated thought and theory, thus free to walk your own path with an open mind. Belief in the soul goes hand in hand with God and religion, this in itself prevents rational and logical free thought, it prevents your sub-conscious from finding the answers to the questions of existence, for the answers are given to you without you having to research them or contemplate the question.

Spirituality is more complex than believing in a soul whether it is mortal or immortal.
Your definitions are faulty.
Religion has little to do with spirituality . It is about wealth and power.

Alternate definition of spirituality:

Being focused, preoccupied, immersed, interested, dedicated to having periods of deep introspection as well as intense, emotional, new and/or enlightening internal and subjective experiences.

This is what many people often mean nowadays when they use the term "spirituality" and atheists have little choice but to also apply this bastardized terminology.

By this definition I would be a spiritual atheist. In no way shape or form does it mean I am sacrificing my rationalist and scientific naturalist world-view.

If you must be literal,...

However, I define spirit not as a supernatural animating force within myself but the mind/body connection. So, yes I can be spiritual in that I nurture the connection between mind and body through things like appreciation of art, music, nature, and family and friends.

Uh... even using your own definition... look at the first one, where it says "spirit"

There are plenty of definitions from the dictionary you used for spirit, and this one fits atheists fine:

"# 1. The part of a human associated with the mind, will, and feelings

Spiritual simply means you imagine you have a soul, which I myself do.
I imagine I have a soul, and of course I realize I don't.

The problem church people have is that they can't separate imagination from reality.

It's like if you were watching a movie, but instead of enjoying it as a movie, you start thinking it's actually happening.

They can't do two things at once in their brains.
