What is the largest enlargement I can get from a 35mm film, with good results? What considerations need to be taken using a slower speed film in order to produce enlargements? I have been using a high speed film but not able to get enlargements. What type of enlargements should I anticipate if I switched to medium format camera?

I have a 16x20 from a picture taken with an aftermarket 150mm lens, f3.5 taken at 3/4 mile, hand held. perfect.

With a really top-notch prime lens and ISO 200 film I've had 16x20 enlargements made from 35mm negatives. With ISO 100 film I've gone to 20x24. The secret is having a really really sharp negative.

With medium format and ISO 100 you could easily go to 36x36 or maybe bigger.

Also, if you get a great 35mm film scanner (the best are the drum scanning type) you could use Photoshop's incredibly powerful interpolation tools to digitally enlarge the photo without sigificant loss of quality.

GIMP is a great program that allows wall-sized photos be made from smaller (albeit high quality and sharp..) photos.
