I read he now thinks there is some sort of deistic, nonpersonal deity because he doesn't see any other explanation for life and universe. I think okay, I've heard that argument a zillion times didn't you? Why is it suddenly persuasive now for you? Its impossible to know what is going on in his mind. Although I'm sure there is a book coming or maybe already out where for a few bucks he tell us what might be going on in his mind. Maybe he is just at a point where he needs something. Maybe he really feels this makes sense. Maybe he did sell out. It doesn't matter to me. People convert back and forth all the time. What I pay attention to is their arguments and reasons. His are old rehashed arguments that remain uncompelling to me. The God of the gaps, since we don't know for sure must be a supernatural deity arguments.

In his last communications on it he has said he was mislead about the state of the science and he is definitely not a theist. He preferrs the Deism of Einstein, Hawking and Spinoza.
It seems that his memory is getting bad and he is getting quite senile. I am not saying that with any direspect. He had a great mind and applied it well for about 3/4 of a century, but he is in his mid-eighties now.
The last link is about his statement on the atheism/theism claims as of 2004.
He states he is an atheist. He said this again in spring of 2007 but he quit allowing people to quote anything more from him after the spring of 2007.

When people like this man or Einstein say that there has to be a god or creator or some kind of Deity that does not mean they are Christian and is not proof of the bible God.
Pagans have believed in many gods and goddesses and a creator as long as there have been the belief in Deity.

"He was once a great philosopher. So sad."
why MUST we assume great philosophers are necessarily atheists ? Is that a prerequisite ? I. Newton was a christian, does this negate his contribution to macrophysics ? I think Dawkins thinks so... sad...
an arrogant position taken by Dawkins, sad indeed he is not able to rise above that and feels compelled to be derogatory... but I am not surprised. Please check out M. Muggeridge conversion. It happens...
I am favoring total separation of science and faith...

I don't make much of it, other than a sign that age slowly destroys the ability to reason. The reasons Flew gave for his shift are the same old rehashed arguments discredited over and over.

Just because he has had something happen in his life that has changed his beliefs doesn't mean he is "selling out"...it's not a competition to see which side can have the most members...every person needs to follow their OWN path that is right for them

Psalm 146:3 Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save. 4 When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.
5 Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, 6 the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them— the LORD, who remains faithful forever.
