i have had almost every tooth filled 2 years ago, and about three fillings since. Now my top back tooth has cracked/chipped abit, got abit of a whole at the side and has started to niggle pain. every injection is painful, and i refuse to go back and have that scary thing through my gums again- i am **** sick of it even though ive looked after my teeth pretty well. is there anything else the dentist can use instead of that *** needle or im thinking of whipping the tooth out myself some how. Many thanks.

First and foremost, have you ever had big dental work done without that injection??? Trust me, that injection is the least of your pains when we are talking about extractions and even fillings!
There are a few things you can do to help, to start you need to force yourself to relax, ask the dentist if he/she will use topical on your gums/cheeks and see if they offer Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas). Laughing gas will not knock you out, but will put you into a relaxing state of mind so that you "don't really care."
The last and best thing to do it to close your eyes and count slowly. The initial feeling is a "pinch" and thereafter, once the medicine starts going in, it numbs you right away and you shouldn't be able to feel it within seconds.
I promise I know this because my classmates gave their very first injections on me...and they didn't know what exactly they were doing!
It is mind-over-matter...with a few aids of topical and laughing gas. Take the injection because the alternative is MUCH WORSE!
Good luck!

I haven't had a needle at the dentist for years - am terrified of them! I took up yoga and find that I can control the pain level (with co-operation from a very very kind dentist) for most things, including fillings. Good luck - tis horrid when teeth hurt.

If I were you I would change the Dentist, even injections are painless now, you should have some stuff on your gums to numb the area before the injection, my Dentist is superb and guarantees no pain

Nitrus Oxide--Puts you under but your not going to feel the stick of injections.
