It's quite funny that those who answered this question have treated "Rambo" as if he were a real person and not a fictitious character in a movie. In the movie, the Soviet forces were the enemy, since they were the invaders - and at the time they were not known as the Taliban, they were called the Mujahedin. The people of Afghanistan have been fighting off and on for over 30 years - "Rambo" can still go back and fight the Taliban in his next movie.

Because U.S don't care who are they and what they are up to, as long as they are the enemy of the soviets, they have to alongside with them. So with the "Rambo" movie, holywood try to win the heart of the Americans and create a sympathy to talibans " heroes of the afghan people fighting with occupaying soviets "
of course until the september 11, heroes called terrorist now.
even the movie was a totall fiction, it is not a secret the USA government helped the taliban (to train them and armed them during soviet occupation by the CIA same side with the BIN LADEN)

no one had relatively found out (or appeared to bear in mind the President Jefferson affirming conflict on teh Barbary States) that Islamofascism replaced into an surely danger, enormously while the looming danger of the time replaced into Communism. a suited Rambo action picture could be in line with John Rambo fixing our governments errors. yet like maximum different video clips, this action picture should be much less politically in touch with the actual international to prevail on the field workplace.

To stop Russia from invading Afghanistan.
Why do we now call Germany a friend when at one time they were our worst enemy.
Time changes, situations change.
EDIT: JS, the way I took the question is why would hollywood portray Rambo to help the Taliban. Anyone in their right mind knows Rambo is a character.

Rambo fought alongside the Taliban groups who claim the right of the crude oil in the Middle-East as Putin today along the Caspian Sea and as the American government has already grasped it thanks to the US pipelines BTC from Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea.
The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline BTC pipeline (sponsored by Saudi Arabia, U.S.A and Argentina) transports crude petroleum 1,776 km from the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli oil field in the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. The total length of the pipeline in Azerbaijan is 440 km long, in Georgia it is 260 km long and in Turkey is 1076 km long. There are 8 pump stations through the pipeline route. It passes through Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan; Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia; and Ceyhan, a port on the south- eastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey, hence its name.

Its only a movie and 95% of what happens in a movie is pure fiction.
In reality the actor Syl Stalone sat out the Vietnam War by working as an assistant fitness instructor at a girls school in Switzerland till it was safe to come home.
