i am mainly interested in a digital photo camera that will allow me to make very good pictures at night. i am planning to go on a trip around Europe and the camera that i have only takes good pictures at day. during the night, the pictures taken are blurry and out of focus. i tried every feature it had but the result was the same. i want to be able to take a photo of the moon, of Belgrade at night and any other lighted building. i know that it is possible. i just want to know with what kind of camera i can do that.

For taking night photgraphs, you need a camera which is having shutter speed manual control + you will be requiring a tripod, to take photos with slow shutter speeds

I am using Sony cybershot DSCH-1, which is having minimum speed of 30 seconds, which is more then enough for night photo graphy. here are a few samples of night photgraphy from this camera

I don't know about your budget, but i think you buy any famous brand, with shutter speed control.
I hope this will solve your problem

For any camera to take good night photos you must use it in Manual Mode. Using flash is seldom a viable answer unless you're photographing a small group fairly close.

You also need a tripod and, unless your camera has shutter speeds of at least 15 seconds, a cable release. Your shutter speed setting must have either a "B" or "T" so you can hold the shutter open as long as needed with the cable release.

Here are some settings to try for a city skyline in distance:

ISO 100

f5.6 @ 15 seconds
f8 @ 30 seconds
f11 @ 60 seconds

ISO 200

f5.6 @ 8 seconds
f8 @ 15 seconds
f11 @ 30 seconds

I have used the FotoSharp (fotosharp.com) "Day & Night Exposure Guide" for years. Buying one is recommended.

Of course, you can always use the highest ISO setting and shoot wide open (f2 or f2.8) and, with Image Stabilization, maybe hand-hold at 1/15 or 1/30 sec.

The cheapest camera I'd recommend is the Fujifilm Finepix F10.
1. It's $120.
2. It has a tripod mount.
3. It will take pictures up to 15 seconds.
4. It goes up to 1600 ISO.
It also has good battery life. There are even better cameras if you're willing to spend more money. The F50 goes up to ISO 6400 and has image stabilization.

I use the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W30 digital camera and it takes pretty good pictures in low light/night. It's a reasonably priced camera with lots of features and a good design.

the mega-pixels the more the better i recommend no less than 4 mega pixels because the less it has the smaller the picture is if you want to enlarge on the computer it becomes more blurry. and the Optical zoom the more it has the more it zooms in.And choose well known brands like sony, canon and kodak etc because you don't want some dodgy camera brand that might have a really expensive memory card or it might even have to be imported. hope this helps

Buy known brands in photography- Canon or Nikon. Do not go for any of these makers that manufacture all kinds of electronics.

you will likely have to buy a night lens.

Though many good brands allow you to do this, I recommend you Pentax, go to the website and find the right model for you.
