It's pink on one side, and white on the other. My Nana is telling me that when I put it up, the roll must face towards the room - she 'knows this for a fact'.

But surely this isn't true for a black-out blind? If the roll faces inwards, I'm either going to end up with the majority white and a pink 'roll' (I bought pink to match my room, not to show the neighbours), or I'm going to have to roll it the other way (it came rolled up so all you can see is pink), and the majority will be pink, and the roll will be white. This will also look silly, won't it?

She's saying that if I do it the 'wrong' way (so that the roll is closest to the window, and therefore not visible) that it 'might' look okay, but she's not too sure. I'm definitely having it this 'wrong' way, but what are your opinions? How would you put it up?

Thanks in advance! =)

Even though the colours will be wrong? That's what I'm most confused about. It would make more sense to have it as close as possible to the window, but I don't want it looking daft! I've noticed that things like the Argos catalogue never show the top of the blind, so you can't really tell which way they've put it...

The white is your black-out fabric and so this must face out of the window and to give the best result in light reduction the cloth must be close to the window and therefore the roll faces inwards. Go back to your blind supplier or take the blind to a good reputable shop where they should be able to make a small clip-over pelmet in either the same pink or a contrasting finish - even wood or wood effect and this will get rid of the white band at the top of your blind. Your Gran was right.

You need to have the fabric coming off the roll towards the window to minimise the gap. not much point in it being blackout otherwise...
You can reattach the fabric to the roll if it's the wrong colourway facing in/out. Usually just Parcel tape.

the pink side should face your room (you also can remove it from the roller and reattach it(in the opposite direction) so its closest to the window and give you the most light blocking.

I'd agree with your Nan, the roll faces inwards
