I got tattoo recently on my foot. I washed and used the ointment the tattoo artist gave me for 3 days and then switched to lotion. I kept it moist all day for a few days until it all peeled. I thought it was fully healed and it looked good but when I stopped putting lotion on it all of the time it got this rough top layer on it that is like white around the outside of it. In the middle where there is color it is shiny and cracked. Lotion doesn't do anything for it. Will it be okay?

It will be fine its not done healing!!! Keep applying the lotion a few times a day and try not to wear shoes or socks, it could be slowing down the healing time.

Take a trip to shop you got your tattoo and and have them look at it if your concerned but sounds like normal healing to me.

Keep putting lotion on, but not lots of it because it will get worse.
Scabbing and peeling is normal though. But if its too much, then it means the tattoo was poorly done, and the colors won't be as vibrant as most people would want them to be.
Put sunblock on the tattoo as well. The sun can cause scabbing!

That's normal, mine did that and it's fine, it just needs touching up a bit. As long as you don't pick the scabs off it'll be alright. Some of my scabs came off quite early so I've got black writing with some gray lettering, but I contacted the place it was done at and they said they'll touch it up for free, because it can naturally happen and it wasn't caused by me picking at it. But just leave it and it will heal, and if some of the colours aren't as intense as other parts, get it touched up. I don't know what A+D is, never heard of it, but I use Bepanthen which is a nappy rash cream and was recommended by the tattooist.

Sounds normal but if your worried about it go back to the tattoo shop and ask.. I had really wierd scabbing on mine too and ended up going back in and having a touch up done because my body rejected the white..He had to use the another kind of white but looks great now and most important keep it out of direct sun light and tanning beds right now.

how long have you had the tattoo? my foot did the same thing. it is a secondary scab that is tougher but it is normal. just keep moisturizing it three to four times a day.
feet take longer to heal than other tattoos because they get less circulation.

you tat is fine. Its going to heal like that. A tattoo to your body is like road rash. and it heals it just as so. The scab will be ruff, but whatever u do dont pick at it.let it fall off by its self.If you pick at it you will loose some pigments of ink and the end result will need touching up. best of luck

Yeah you'll be ok. Once it's healed properly, if you think that it needs a touch up.. you should do that right away. It should be free of charge.

Keep it moist for the most part until then.

Have your dermatologist take a look, you might be having a reaction. Well you could wait a few days and keep an eye on it but I would say make an appt tomorrow just in case. He can give you a prescription ointment to clear it up.
