i am in a different area code than my own and i want to dial a number that is in the area code i am in do i still need to dial that area code

I know in NY yes you have to do that since its so many area codes in one area.

depends... areas that have an overlay are required by law to use 10 digit dialing...

try dialing straight thru with out the area code... if you get an error message, try dialing the 10 digit number (with out the 1) if it goes thru good, if it requires you dial the 1 first, then you are making a long distance call...
