You can get a gentle leader it is basically a collar that goes around the nose and he won't pull so much go to your local pet store and ask they will show you what they are, and obedience training at a young age helps too walking with them on a leash takes time for some to learn but he's a baby and most labs quickly adapt, Now as far as listening, go to obedience classes . Good Luck. Oh and the gentle leader will also prevent him from being able to eat the manure

you might want to read this book called...

title: the loved dog
author: tamar geller

she's a really good trainer, & teaches you how to control your dog from doing the wrong thing.

she even helped OPRAH out with her 3 dogs.

Pulling him back is fine it teaches him that this is a non no. That's how a dog parent would teach her pup.
