The PS3 doesn't overheat as long as it has the proper air flow. A PS3 can be left on for days and it won't over heat.

I've had my PS3 for about 11 months and I haven't had any hardware problems or overheating problems. Also, many people may think that their PS3 may be overheating because it operates pretty warm, but it's normal for the PS3 to operate very warm.
