I have a Sony RDR-HXD560.

It was region free from new, straight out of the box - as are most DVD recorders and players nowadays.

You are very unlucky if you buy a new Region 2-only DVD player...

Hello Vex,

I had the same problem.

Many of the cheaper brands, such as Bush are already region free, but not all Sony DVDs are.

I also wanted a region free Sony DVD player. I went to my local Richer Sounds outlet and they do stock Sony players which are region free, and at a reasonable price.

If you do not have a local branch, you can purchase these online from:

http://www.richersounds.com/productlist.php?cda=productlist&sort=price&search=dvd+players&feature=DVDPLAYERS&manufacturer=SONY

Their phone number is:

0845 900 1230 (and its not an 0870 number which makes a refreshing change).

They currently have one Sony player brand in stock online, a Sony DVPNS29 (Multi-Region DVD player).

I have recently purchased 3 of these from them (I know I'm greedy).

The RRP for this model is £69.95 but Richer Sounds are currently selling them at £49.95, plus P&P of course if you buy online.

My reply may suggest I work for this company but I promise I do not. I am however recommending them because I have been treated very well by them and have always found their staff extremely helpful and friendly.

I hope this has helped.
