Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

Simply put if we know what we are doing is a sin and yet we continue doing it their is no sacrifice for sin.

Here is the FULL context:

Hebrews 10:26-27 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)
Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society

26If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

It is saying that those who have come to a saving knowledge of Christ, need no other means of beeing right with God, but that while we may have been changed by God's power, we are still subject to His chastening when we DO sin.

The more detailed meaning is given in Hebrews 10:29

26For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

27But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

28He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

29Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Having turned his back on the truth, and with full knowledge choosing to willfully and continually sin, the apostate is then beyond salvation because he has rejected the one true sacrifice for sins: the Lord Jesus Christ. If Christ’s sacrifice is rejected, then all hope of salvation is gone. To turn away willfully from this sacrifice leaves no sacrifice; it leaves only sin, the penalty for which is eternal death. This passage is not speaking of a believer who falls away, but rather someone who may claim to be a believer, but truly is not. Anyone who apostatizes is proving he never had genuine faith to begin with (1 John 2:19).

In the context of the entire chapter, we are given instruction that we are to give but one sacrifice to the Lord God and that is our lives. Willfully and fully to Him. If we faithfully give our lives to Him but continually sin against Him, He will eventually choose NOT to forgive us because we are not sincere. In fact there are many out there completely confused by God's wonderful forgiveness. They sin intentionally, then ask forgiveness, sin again (sometimes even the same sin) then as forgiveness again, believing that God will do so every time. Not so. Only God knows our hearts and intentions. He will not be used. But instead will exact judgement against the sinner. katiefish <><

why don't you write in standard, accepted chapter verse abbreviation 10:26

or at least put you Ch (not cp) and V (verse) designation before the number as it is suppose to be.

And it means exactly what the evangelicals don;t wasnt you to think it means. It means the Catholic s are right about good works. It means your Salvation while a free gift from God is yours to lose. Read it in context of the WHOLE chapter not just the verse itself.

It means that you must continue, all of your life, do fulfill good works. You cannot declare that you are "saved" and then expect a free ride to heaven. You must continue to serve Christ your entire life and it also means that "works" are important to your salvation.

It means the "once saved, always saved" doctrine is bogus.

We can lose our salvation - through willful, deliberate, continual sin.
