It depends on how you qualify the pole sitter gets his choice of pitbox and the rest take where they qualify.

The Pole winner gets first choice of pit stall. #2 gets second choice and so on through the field.
The First pit box is not always the best one.
Teams will look to see if there is an opening in front of their box, so they cant get blocked in by the car in front of them.
So tracks, such as Dover do not have enough boxes for every team, so two teams will have to share a box at the beginning of the race until at least one car drops out of the race.
The previous years champion, DOES NOT get first choice. This rule was done away with after the 95 season.

Qualifying. Pole get #1 choice of pit box--2nd gets #2 choice and so on!!!!

Actually the Champion from the previous year gets the #1 pitt position and then the other pitt positions are based on where the driver qualifies.
