Yes, for now US citizens can pass through Canada and re-enter the US with proof of citizenship. I advise bringing everything you've got--birth certificate, driver's license, and voter registration card.

No you can't - and it's all about American regulations. You can't get into the US without a passport so , although you cross Canada, you need a passport to get into Alaska. And on the way home, you'll need a passport to get back into the lower 48 and head home to Indiana.

last I knew, the passport requirement was pushed back for US re-entry, but you may need to show proof that you have applied for a passport.
You can make the trip by avoiding Canada; take the Alaska Marine Highway to Bellingham, Washington, and take I-90 east from Seattle to Indiana.

I'm thinking you are going to need to go through Canada before you get to Alaska, so with the new regulations, I'd say yes. Better apply soon.
