Most people I know would say it is not appropriate. First of all, you could get yourself in some serious trouble just because of the age difference. From an ethcical standpoint, it probably would be frowned upon the other members of the hosting family.
If this is how the two of you feel, "for real", then it is probably something the two of you should talk about with the mother. Maybe you won't be viewed to much of a sick-o. I say bad news all around... not a good idea.
If this is in fact real, and not a joke, good luck. Otherwise, I guess I'm just a sucker.

Pierre, I'm a Teacher in America--and you will get into BIG TROUBLE if you have sex with that 16 year old girl. You will GO TO JAIL and get deported back to France; and you will be labeled as a "Sex Offender" for the rest of your life in America (which means that the police department will put your picture on the Internet telling everyone you are a Rapist)
In America it is ILLEGAL to have sex with anyone under age 18, if you do, it is called "Statuatory Rape". There is a populat TV show called "To Catch a Predator" where they arrest men who try to have sex with girls under the age of 18. They all get arrested and go to jail. That will happen to you.

I think that yo may have a legal problem. In some states, it would be illegal for a 20 year old to have sex with a 16 year old, but maybe not in all states. You need to check the guide lines for consent in the state where your are going to perform the act.
As far as the social implications are concerned, it would not be a matter of concern for most people.

She is considered a minor and you are not. You will go to jail and probably be kicked out of the USA for being a pedophile. You have a lot to lose. I also believe it would be an injustice and total lack of respect, to the entire family.

nope. not only is that not acceptable, it's illegal. so, if you want to ever return to the US in the future, don't commit any type of crime while visiting. this would be considered statutory rape and if the relationship was discovered, i'm sure the parents would be very upset that you took advantage of their hospitality and they may press charges. you would then be classified as a sexual predator and if you ever were allowed to enter the US again, you would be on the national registry and your neighbors would always know of your sexual crimes no matter where you moved.
