Well the tower of babel is a myth.
The space shuttle is real.
Big difference.
Edit, you've hit upon one of my mythapprehensions there!

The church no longer teaches that the Tower of Babel was built to reach heaven. Now it teaches that God punished the tower-builders because of their "pride and arrogance" for delighting in a man-made structure.
Before we went into space, the church could say that the people built the tower to reach heaven because no one knew how high heaven was. They still thought heaven and God were "up in the clouds". Once the shuttles began sending pictures back and there was no evidence of heaven or of God, the church had to change the story. Now they teach heaven is out in the cosmos somewhere where we haven't gone yet. Even though the Bible clearly says that heaven is on the other side of the hard dome covering the earth.
So somebody's lying - Probably NASA. They just made up all that "space exploration" stuff. So that explains why God hasn't smited us for going into space - because we haven't. Now run along and don't ask any more silly questions.

they weren't on the brink of attaining Heaven.... God only knew it grew to become into nonsense. human beings do no longer want a tower to get to Heaven. i understand circumstances interior the previous testiment have been diverse, i def don't have each and all the solutions, and that i'm engaged on having greater of a sturdy commencing place with that, yet for now it particularly is what i've got have been given... the Bible is surely real. it would be nonsense to in basic terms have faith part of the Bible. That'd be only silly, i've got faith each and all the Bible. Which demands faith, with the aid of fact lots of it particularly is complicated. however the folk tried to realize to Heaven so that they might get glory. God merits each and all the honour, and he's no longer in basic terms a softy it somewhat is happy with that. He grew to become into livid that individuals might attempt to benefit each and all the honour that God merits. So he created diverse languages so that they could no longer communicate to end the tower

What Bro. Dan said is true. And, we are doing the same thing with the shuttle as they proposed to do with the tower. Shoot an arrow at god? I'm sure they resembled arrows. A Shem has been translated as a rocket.

i don't know, that was a really big tower ... must have been if it scared god so much.
i can see it now, cavemen in spacesuits dragging large chunks of granite up a ramp to the top of the tower which was waaaaaaaaaay higher than the Himalayas. then they used a force field to seal the tower so the warp core could not escape. but god shot the tower with a proton torpedo which caused a warp-core breach and blew the tower to smithereens. little bored people, called christians, spilled out, and they've been running around the planet ever since.
they are the bored, lower your shields and prepare to be boarded. resistance is futile, you will be assimilated into the bored collective where you will service us.

In ancient times, Babylon was called Bab-ili or "gateway of the gods". The famous tower was a launch tower constructed by the rebellious ilu Marduk as an alternative to the main space facility of the Anunnaki (Anachim). Marduk was defeated and the Anunnaki leadership decided to divide the world among their leaders. At the same time, they also established new languages so as to divide and rule Mankind.

this is perhaps the most critically stupid question I have seen today, and I have seen many.
the tower of babel is all about one world government, not getting into heaven If you will take the time to read the account and study what was going on, you can learn this, but you won't so don't bother.
leave biblical teaching for the ones who know it and don't embarrass yourself like this
as for the canadian atheist, i have seen the base of the tower when I was in Iraq along with hundreds of other things I keep reading questions on saying they don't exist.
and so many are trusting their knowledge to the idea that God does not exist because they can't put him under a microscope.

The tower was not smited as you put it due to it's height nor due to the accomplishment of the people but rather Nimrod built the Tower with the purpose to shoot an arrow at God himself. This arrogance is what earned the division of language and the fall of the tower. The shuttle was not built in order to mock or attack God but rather as man's attempt to seek out and discover more of the universe.

The purpose of the Tower of Babel was to demonstrate that human beings could ascend to Heaven without following God's rules. In essence, they could be "god" themselves.
The space shuttle does not have that intent or purpose. The purpose of the space shuttle is exploration. No astronaut said "well now I'm God!"
