Well I used to live upstairs from a Vietnamese family when I was in college and let me tell you: they were the nicest, most polite people I have ever known. The husband washed his car every day and they kept the yard and had a garden even though they were renting as well. They had two daughters, both young adults, although one was mentally retarded and very childlike. They took care of her and never relied on outside help. I didn't know much about them but they were very quiet and respectful. Sadly the father had a stroke at 62, unexpectedly, and I went to the funeral. It was there that I saw a picture of him in an American military uniform - he had served in Vietnam as an American! They were Buddhists and being Catholic I had never seen a funeral like that and it was very special; a celebration of his life, with food, children dressed up in traditional Buddhist clothing, performing rituals - even though he died unexpectedly, his wife was ok with it. They were able to move and buy a house afterwards because he left life insurance. There are many Vietnamese on the west side of Buffalo, NY, and they all own businesses or work very hard for others and never look for handouts. I have the upmost respect for them and would welcome them any day next door to me in the place I currently live, which is 99% white.

Thirty years after the long, and cruel war you could expect that Vietnam would have locked itself up, turning to an ultra-communistic country full of hatred against the then enemy, rather similar to North Korea. But what we see, and hear is very different. It's a country full of hope today. My deep respect to Vietnam!

From what I have seen, it has not reached the industrial movement yet. I do not know this first-hand, just guessing from what I have seen. I guess if I wanted to rough it on a vacation, I would go to Vietnam.
I'm not any Asian blend, straight European blend that likes creature comforts.
