peeing in certain spots? She is fixed now and I think the one time she was in heat she went nuts and seemed to pee everywhere for some reason. I had to clean the house and furniture from top to bottom!

Anyhow, after she was fixed it stopped, except that she seems to go in TWO spots in the basement all the time. Under the stairwell and one corner of our rec room. You can tell because you can SMELL it. My nose knows everything!

How do we get her to stop and why does she do this? I mean it's ceramic flooring and I check about once a week and sure enough she's gone there again.

I have bleached the areas, cleaned it with everything I can think of but she keeps going. Why oh WHY???!!!! And how can I get her to go in her litter box. I mean she does use the litter box too.

HELP!

I have one of those covered litter boxes which you tip. to clean. I think I might go back to the regular open one and I like the idea of placing a box in those spots too. I was thinking of just sealing up the stairwell as it's open under the stairs. Thanks for all the tips and I will look for those products and try vinegar. I know they don't like citrus either. Will try it all! LOL

Cats urinate inappropriately for several reasons. One of those involves the existing litter box and whether it's clean, if you've switched litter brands, if there's something you've recently placed in the area, any number of quirky excuses not to go in and use it. The second reason is territoriality. You didn't mention if you had other pets. The third reason is to express her displeasure with the current living situation, though I think this is unlikely with her since she's using the same two spots.

I do understand your frustration. Since the areas are now soiled, it's extremely difficult to get her to stop using those and it might be best to go with the flow and place litter boxes there. Also, I'm going to suggest that you buy a product called Zero Odor, which is absolutely safe for cats and is the best thing I've ever found to remove urine odors. I use it in the actual litter box and trash can. There is no smell of cat in my home at all.

I do wish you luck. It's an irritating problem.

keep the litter box clean every day until it stop doing it all over the place and use vinegar instead of bleach , the cat won't like the smell . spend a lot of time with the cat in the next few days. there is a very serious trauma in getting fixed. she will be OK in a couple of weeks. just try and understand.

can you place the litter box in one of the spots that she pees on the floor? Also, I had a cat for 21 years, I found that wide open, non-scented litter and boxes worked best. Hope this helped.

if those areas are carpeted, you will have to replace the padding and carpet...the odor the cat smells will not just go away because you do not smell it. also there are things on the market that are safe for the cats, names do not come to me directly but you can ask at the pet store...i had to spray in my bathroom because one of my cats had it in her head she was going to pee on the rug in front of the toilet...it was a spray and it worked...kind of expensive though, but now she doesn't pee in front of my toilet (thought it was kind of cute at first, like she wanted to pee on the toilet too but anyway) you can also try moving her current litter box and getting another one, and then placing them in the two areas of concern...this way when she returns to those places, she will be forced to use the litter box that is there instead. however, the downside to this option is now you have 2 litter boxes in your home instead of one. try talking to your vet the next time you go too, and explain the problem to him/her, see what he suggests.

Put something in those two spots to scare her. She comes around the corner and....BOO...She runs away...hopefully towards her litter box.

Maybe when you see him or her pee you should pop him and put him in the litter box.
