I'm thinking about dying my hair. I have done it before, but only to lighten it a bit. Now I'm thinking of going with this color: it's a reddish brown, and very pretty http://clairol.com/herbalessences/vibrant/step4.jsp
I'm also thinking of adding the Herbal Essences highlights for curly hair, that ate a warm caramelly-brown.
My original hair color is a medium brown. I know this would be a pretty intense change, but I'd like to do it. Would this look good with blue-grey eyes?
If you don't think this is a good color pair for me, why? and what do you think I should do?
Also, should I get the Herbal Essences box kit, or get it done in a salon? Sometimes in a salon is REALLY expensive, but if you go the cheaper way, the quality is less... is that true?

I would go to a salon, especially if you want highlights. A lot of people mess their hair up with home highlighting kits and have to get them fixed at salons. Another problem with store bought dyes is that they never turn out on your hair exactly like they do on the box.

If I were you, I'd go to a salon and ask for the reddish brown you want, with a few golden caramel highlights around your face to soften it up. The stylist will be able to give you a few options for what will look good on you. One all over colour and a few highlights shouldn't be that expensive and will give you a fresh, multidimensional look

I disagree with an earlier poster who said it would kill your hair. The dyes used in salons today are much less harsh than they were years ago. They can be damaging if you are lightening your hair substantially, as they would have to use a high volume of peroxide, which can dry and damage your hair. However, if you're going for a relatively subtle change and don't plan on re-colouring your hair all the time, you don't have much to worry about.

I think this would look really nice with blue-grey eyes. I know a girl with similar colouring and her hair is absolutely beautiful. Make sure your stylist has experience with curly hair!

Good luck!

It depends on how your face looks. But I don't think it would look horrible with blue-grey eyes. That is my natural hair color and I have hazel eyes. As for doing it a salon or doing it on your own, do it YOURSELF. There are a bunch of reasons why. For one doing it yourself is cheaper. And if you don't like it at least you didn't spend sixty dollars at a salon. Also just because they are trained does NOT mean that a salon will do a better job. My mother got her hair colored at a salon and they completly screwed up.

The only thing i want to tell you is that dont do it yourself. Im 17 and i started to dye my hair at 15. My hair was VERY thick and beautiful. now. its thin and broken and you can even see my scalp at the top. because i have been using all those clairol herbals watever. either get it done or dont do it at all you're just gonna ruin your hair in the long run, if you really must, save up some money and get it done its way worth it! promise!
