TomTom has now surpassed Garmin in terms of map coverage, I recommend them.
Was at a product roadshow in the RDS last month and saw a launch of new products. TomTom will have the best updates and maps from January onwards.

Used a Garmin sat nav in the Republic of Ireland. It worked great when we used it in and around county Clare. I hadn't been around those parts in years but it got me to where I needed to be.

I live in the Republic and I just use an ordinary map .... but then I don't mind stopping and asking for directions either.
