My girlfriend just purchased a 95 Altima from a private party. The engine has developed a very annoying vibration and I'm suspecting the harmonic balancer. Does anyone have any experience changing this, or know how much it will cost to replace? And... what exactly is it? Is it the wheel pully assembley that all the belts hook up to? Thanks!

Ok, I'll check the motor mounts. How many are there? Is this something that can be changed out with just a hydraulic jack or is it more complicated? How much do you think a shop would charge to do this?

Check the engine mounts
upper and lower dog bones.

Usually the cheap rubber wears out and causes vibrations - noises, and premature wear on several parts.

The easy was - pop the hood - start the car.
Now with your foot on the brake - put it in reverse then drive.

Watch the engine - it should not move around more than 1-2", if it throws itself around - then your mounts are bad.

I may have seen about 5 crank pulleys on 2.4 KA motors. Watch the motor mounts and radatior rubbers when you power stall the engine in reverse and drive most likely it is motor mount time. If you replace the crankshaft pulley also replace the front engine seal while your looking at it.

i'm very sorry to hearken to which you're making money in this vehicle, yet they have not tried each and every thing or it would have have been given all started. Did you examine the ignition wires? What on the subject of the timing chain (or belt), whether the compression is wonderful, it could have jumped a teeth and screwed up your valve timing. you will in no way get the money out of it in case you sell it for factors. Scrapyard only pay $20 to $50 for a non-working vehicle.
