+ Date of Easter +

The date of Easter changes because it is based on the date of Passover (which is based on the Jewish calendar as opposed to out Gregorian calendar).

+ The Word "Easter" +

The English word "Easter" relates to Estre, a Teutonic (German) goddess of the rising light of day and spring, which deity. No one seems to know why.

The great feast of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ was celebrated long before the unchristian English word "Easter" was first used.

Most other languages translate the Jewish/Christian word for "Passover" for the great celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ that English speakers call "Easter."

The Greek term for "Passover" is pascha. It is the Aramaic form of the Hebrew pesach (meaning passover).

The Greeks called Easter the pascha anastasimon
Latin: Pascha
Italian: Pasqua
Spanish: Pascua
Scottish: Pask
Dutch: Paschen
Danish: Paaske
Swedish: Pask
Even in the German provinces of the Lower Rhine where the Teutonic goddess Estre had its origins, the people call the feast Paisken not Ostern.

+ Easter Bunny and Easter Eggs +

Rabbits and eggs are pagan fertility symbols of extreme antiquity.

Birds lay eggs and rabbits give birth to large litters in the early spring these became symbols of the rising fertility of the earth during the spring season.

Since Easter also occurs in the early spring, people brought the beloved pagan symbols into the Christian celebration of Easter.

These pagan symbols have become part of the Christian tradition. They do not take anything away from the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and they add to the celebration.

Christianity has frequently absorbed the positive and neutral elements of pagan religions while leaving the negative symbols behind, similar to Christmas trees and Halloween costumes.

+ The Egyptian Obelisk +

Pope Sixtus V (1585-1590) directed the obelisk to be re-erected at the center of the square in 1586, in front of the "new" Basilica of Saint Peter, which was being built at that time.

The Egyptologist Labib Habachi gives the most accepted reason in his book, "The Obelisk of Egypt" (1977 Charles Scribner's Sons):

"Legend has it that in the Vatican Circus innumerable Christians, including St. Peter, were put to death and that the reason this obelisk was not later overturned as were all the others in Rome was that it was looked upon as the last witness to the martyrdom of St. Peter."

To think that this obelisk, this exact piece of stone, may have been the last thing that Saint Peter looked upon before his death while being crucified upside down is awe inspiring.

+ Languages +

There are Catholics in every country of the world speaking every language of the world.

By saying "The Lord is risen!" in most of these languages, the Pope is being polite, showing the universality of the Catholic Church, and maybe even using the gift of tongues.

+ With love in Christ.

okay every day somewhere in the world some religon has some festival or holiday going on . there are so many days in a year so some have to over lapp on the same day so when you say easter is from ishtar and that bla blah blah it un holy and not what you think it is totally stupid it is like saying that since at christmas time some people in japan worship a god that wears red that santa is evil and that is were we get him wearing red clothes from , these connections make no sense. and by the way the reason we have bunnies and eggs is because beak in the day a celtic goddess turned a bird into a rabbit as punishment for something so the rabbit would lay eggs so ha ha have a very happy day today .

Many religious festivals were hijacked by christians to boost numbers and convert people from Pagan beliefs - Easter was one of these.
As for Ishtar, that was a terrible film. Dustin should be ashamed. Warren has no shame.

Not all Christians celebrate with bunnies and eggs.

Jesus died on the Jewish date of Nisan 14. This does vary from year to year.

After all, he did ask us to remember his death.
(1 Corinthians 11:24-26) and, after giving thanks, he broke it and said: “This means my body which is in YOUR behalf. Keep doing this in remembrance of me.” 25 He did likewise respecting the cup also, after he had the evening meal, saying: “This cup means the new covenant by virtue of my blood. Keep doing this, as often as YOU drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as YOU eat this loaf and drink this cup, YOU keep proclaiming the death of the Lord, until he arrives.
