I want to find my birth certificate. Is there anyway to find it on the internet? Also, I want to find out the year that someone I used to know died. How would I do that on the internet?

In the UK you can search the free BMD on www.ancestry.co.uk to find the information you would need to order your birth certificate on line, but you definitely cant view it on line nor anyone else's. Certificates especially birth certificates are held as private. As for the year your friend died you can view between 1837-1983 0r 1984-2005 for free on the same website.
Hope this helps.

Everyone should have a copy of their birth certificate. It sometimes becomes required that you produce a copy for various reasons throughout your life, and getting one can sometimes take days or even weeks. Having a copy already can serve you well.

That said, if you are in the US, every state has a vital records office (what they actually call it varies). That is where you order a copy of your birth certificate. Just go to the state web site of your birth, and most will have the place to get the birth certificate. Some even have this link on the front page. Most states also have the form you have to fill out available online.

But the requestor would either have to be you or your parents/legal guardian if you are a minor. If the names match (either your name or your parents name) then usually it can just be mailed.

Based on some of your other questions, it seems that you are likely a minor. Some states require that a parent or legal guardian make the request for a minor child - there are reasons beyond legal reasons for this. So it is likely that you would have to get your parents to request this for you.

Watch out for those online places that will get your birth certificate for you for a fee. They aren't doing anything more than you can do for yourself. In fact, you might end up doing more work giving them the information instead of just filling out the request yourself.

But everyone should have a copy of their birth certificate.

Birth cert: contact the county in which you were born. It should be on file in their vital statistics office.

If you were born overseas and are American, write to:

US Department of State
Passport Correspondence Branch, Overseas Birth
1111 19th Street NW Suite 510
Washington, DC 20522-1705
Phone: (202) 955-0307

Death certificates are also vital records. vitalrec.com has contact information for each state (link below). The date may not be required to look up a death certificate record.

To answer your question, check out http://www.vitalrec.com/deathrecords/#Links. It has a list of Internet resources to obtain death certificates online. Same thing with birth certificates. Example resources include vitalchek.com or ancestry.com, which have online order forms and payment checkout.

You didn't mention the state in case you are in the U. S. Texas has a website you can order a birth certificate on line or if you are an immediate family member (mother, father, brother, sister) you can order a birth certificate within 75 years after a person's birth. After 75 years anyone can order a birth certificate on someone

You don't indicate which country you live in. IF you live in the US. the social security death index should have the date of your friend's death.
As for birth certificates, they are NOT accessible online, since they are the best way for identity theft. If you have accurate information, to prove you are you, it might be possible to order a copy. This is usually limited to an adult, or if you are a minor, the parent.

Look for the hall of records for the state you were born in and the state the person died in. Most have websites to help you get the info.

You have to order your birth certificate from the state you were born in or possibly from the county you were born.

As for your friend who passed away, go to rootsweb.com and look them up in the SSDI.
