Someone of any race may steal your wallet if you don't keep an eye on your possessions in the city; in the street, on public transport or almost anywhere else nowadays. Keep your purse closed and the strap over your shoulder, keep the strap around your arm or wrist even when seated (especially if it's a long trip and you might doze off), and don't make assumptions about anyone's race; there are thieves of every color and there are honest people of any color. If you take care you'll be fine, I've traveled with public transport for many years and have never had anything stolen but I have had things stolen in other places when I'd left them unguarded (left my bicycle unlocked *very* briefly when I ran back inside a store for 30 seconds to grab something I'd left on the counter, for example).

People of all races steal. Having a bad attitude about a certain race just makes you more of a target. Not that this seems to be a real question, but...
Hold your head up high, act like you have a right to be there, and you aren't some scared little person. Talk on your cell phone and state your location to your friend in a loud, confident voice. People are less likely to mess with you if you tell the person on the phone that you are on the ____ train heading east, because who is going to rob someone who is on the phone with a person who knows exactly where they are? Obviously if you showed signs of distress, your friend would send cops to your location.
