One of the reasons I won't read fantasy literature is the names.
I can't get past names like Dumbledore. When I read the Bible if I see names like Malchisidec, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego I get frustrated. I don't like those names. They make me just utterly unsympathetic to their owners. Some of the names like Sarah, and Deborah I actualy like, though. I like the name Rebecca and have read her story many times.

Any morality tale such as the Harry Potter's will have corollaries with the Bible. I did find some of the style and nature of the books to be similar to religion. As a young 'un, I also had an aversion to what I saw as unnecessarily complicated and flowery names; you just have to get over it. Not to mention judging a book by its cover - avoided Pratchett for so many years because of the icky cover work . What a mistake ! Don't avoid great reading just because of a few icky names.

The Bible is a collection of Books, so's the Harry Potter series.
There's only one author of Harry Potter, but the bible written/compiled/edited by many. They could of course have been "dictated"/"inspired" by the same entity (its not very likely, I think JKR would have said if it had!)

The name thing is to do with familiarity. You look into it by looking a similar stories from different cultures. The names are usually common ones within the individual cultures.

you have to be obsessed with the two books to read them and you have to have a lot of faith in the subject of both books. Some thing common sense tells you there is no reason for telling the story this way the Bible has many of these and so does harry potter. Magic and the supernatural go hand in hand. May reality and not warped TV reality is more important than the wizardry and religion.

There really is nothing new under the Sun, the Bible has a strong theme of good versus evil and the Harry Potter books/movies reflect a similar battle.
Many writers have borrowed this theme in their books.

DO NOT EVER compare this witchery to the Holy Bible. They are not alike at all. They are to complete opposite. My children are not even allow to read or watch a potter story nor even go to a b-day that H.Potter is the theme. This writer should be ashamed of herself continuing these witch books. Now she's got a gay character. Oh Lord help us. People are getting into this crap and YES I said CRAP toooooooo deep.

right off the bat.
you are reading wrong place "FIRST".
the first books to read is, NEW TESTAMENTS.
WHY.
we are living in it RIGHT NOW.
from the books of Acts of apostles and the first 3 chapters of Revelation.
the Old testaments is the foundation and Historical prove of the New testament is truth.
NOW names are silly for you/us to be BENT ON.
if you get bent on it, it shows immaturity, as well
you're too american! LOL.
if you travel abroad, you'll find some strange names, and they are very content with their names.
and one other thing very important.
the name of john means GRACE..the name of Joshua means savior
the name abraham means father of many nation the name of robert (ME) MEANS bright and fame..the name of sarah means princess (my daughter) my son name is jeremy.similar to jerimah crying prophet..so in all them names in the bible..there is a ROOT why parent give their children them names.
so don't judge.
move on.
by the way..Ishmael means SON OF WAR (every arab may be rooted from this great great great grandfather and they are now at war with us and the world.
So you see...names has meaning behind them.
Jacob means sneaky thief, that why GOD the creator change his name ot Israel...apple of GOD's Eye i believe it may be..or God's chosen..so why muslim's/arabs are going to upset GOD in the future.
anyway.
harry potter is a fable that pulls in children to practice witchcraft.sorcery, curses or whatever.
as the creator said..curse are they..and hellbound they are going.repent, repent..repent..and recieve the spirit of LIFE, love, and power.
witchcraft produce pride..coldness..revengefulness..ect.
sin bring death
obedience to the creator bring life
but, let go farther the blood of JESUS paid for you sins.
so BELIEF spoken bring GRACE/mercy and favor to you.
