I have heard a lot of negative comments about porn but it is all religious stuff. I was wanting to know if there is any scientific evidence saying it is good or bad. Are men naturaly drawn to porn, or is it the enviorment.

I agree with Beatchanter. Porn can be healthy and good. It can help couples explore their fantasies together. And there's nothing hotter than making your own porn with your lover, and then masturbating to it when they're out of town -- it helps keep couples close when they have to spend time apart. Also, masturbation has been scientifically proven to reduce stress, and prevent prostate cancer. It is very healthy to masturbate. Men tend to be naturally visually stimulated, so men like to have porn -- visual images -- to help in our masturbation. This isn't a flaw in men, it's just the way we're wired, and it's why some of us like lingerie so much. Because our sexuality is very visual.

So, there's nothing wrong with porn. It is a beautiful thing. It is healthy and normal. Many of the negative comments about porn come from certain feminists who are anti-male, and certain religious people who are anti-sex in general. If you feel uncomfortable about the nature of the porn industry, I suggest getting yourself a digital camera and making your own.

It depends on what you mean by "scientific" evidence, I suppose. I would think that sociological evidence would be more to the point. Porn makes sex objects of everyone involved, so it is demeaning. Studies HAVE shown that porn causes the formation of pleasure chemicals in the body. The problem is that by objectifying everyone, it causes emotional harm in the long run. It can destroy a marriage, or porn can be left where children can see it, and it can cause trauma. Also, some people feed on porn before committing an atrocity on a child, and in some cases, children are used to make porn. The person who said that the more porn there is, the more stable marriages are is simply rattling his teeth, and doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. A society where everyone treats everyone else as a sex object is not a healthy society, and it's not good for people's self respect. And it turns out that people who use porn get habituated to their own pleasure chemicals, and require more and more bizarre things to get the same buzz. This can lead to some very sick and perverted things. I think probably the best source for information about what porn does to people and to society is to read the web site of Prison Fellowship. These people have spent time with people in prison, and have a good idea of what porn did to them when it's relevant. Yes, they do come at it from a Christian perspective, but they also talk about the consequences they have observed. You will find what they have to say about that helpful.

The evidence says it's good. The states with higher rates of "porn" also have the lowest Divoce Rates. (The Lowest in the country being Massachusets and the highest being Kentucky) Other research says that married couples who watch porn together have a happier sex life.
None of this says whether porn is good for non-married people, or that people who wouldn't want to watch porn should start. But, even Mitt Romney made a ton of money from the porn industry in his Hotel business, though I'm not sure the benefits of porn being pumped into every hotel room in the country.

If you mean good and bad in a moral context, I don't think you can scientifically prove morals. If you mean detrimental or beneficial to a person's well-being, it's known that people who watch a lot of porn sometimes becomes so desensitized that they can no longer get sexually aroused except by more extreme sexual images - most often more porn.

Pornography can only have unfavourable outcomes on sexually repressed human beings. teenagers ought to be waiting to get right of entry to sexually academic fabric, I recommend come on the have classes in school, yet maximum porn is slightly too erotic for youthful adolescents. yet back to what i'm thinking replaced into your considerable question; Why are human beings so petrified of it? it stems from a notably deep-rooted worry of intercourse and the human physique in maximum situations. besides the reality that i think of that's been carried via some religions by the years, I even have yet to locate a superb source-candidate for the attitude. Our society is becoming extra open, even with the undeniable fact that it maintains to be although.

yes sorry all of you, that's probably not the question or the answer ... first you have to classify porn.

men are naturally drawn to it... but to what degree and portrayal.

porn is demeaning to women because it is portrayed that way = the effect upon a community is a negative one because it undermines one sector of the community.

see there's a very thin line if we look at sex as a function of the human body then it is a very primeval urge what as a society are we doing by headonising it in the way that we have.

Shaolt- actually it comes from the Greek "pornei" which means "prostitute," not "evil."

Most of it is demeaning to women, so I'm not fond of it. I'm not sure of its actual impact on american life good or bad. Other countries have far more acessible porn without apparent ill effects. It can be addicting, but that is a condition of the addict-people can get addicted to shopping but no one suggests doing away with it.

That would be an interesting research study, to say the least. Porn ain't going to hurt you. I could not care less that my hubby looks at porn sites online and chats in swinger chat rooms.

People are making money doing report/analysis on this, and you can get pretty much anyhting said on it ( it is good and helping couples know each other better, or bad and destroying couples, ... )
so i will be hard to really know...
let`s say everybody is different - some will react well to it and some will not - up to everybody to watch their own reaction to it and get out of it, or keep at it.

It certainly improved the life of students tremendously.
