We have been in Austalia for 1 year we only came for a career break but at the moment we are working and have been for the last 6 months. We have booked our flight to return to scotland for 6 months on holiday with some traveling on the way. I have been feeling really home sick and lonely as my husband is working shifts and v long hours and I feel like i just want to go to Scotland and stay and be with my famiy and friends. We want to start a family soon but i dont really want to because we are so unsettled? HELP what should we do!!!!

I don't know much about the standard of living over in Oz, but UK is getting worse every day. The education system is rubbish here and it's grey, damp and freezing most of the year.
If I had a choice I would never live in the UK another day.
I would love to have brought up my son as an ex pat and lived in a few other countries. I think it gives a child a broader outlook on life if they have more than one place they can call home.
However if you are going to be miserable where you are then your children will suffer. Don't just think about how you feel right now, consider how things may be once you are more settled. If you really feel you can never settle away from your family then you will have to return to Scotland I guess. Lovely though it is as a country the politics on these Islands sucks and the cost of living is punishing unless you happen to be one of the few with a decent income.

Where you both want to settle down is very much a personal decision for you and your family.
There are pro's and cons for both I'm sure, a very big pro for moving back to Scotland would be that you have, what sounds like, a great support network.
As someone though who has lived in both countries, (Iam Australian, and spent 6 months living in Glasgow), they are both fantastic places to live, Scotland is gorgeous, then so is Aus. But Australia isn't called the lucky country for nothing, we have fantastic services, Health, Education, DSS, and the cost of living here is only around a half of the UK.
In the end however, it's up to you. I would suggest that the two of you have a talk about it, and don't rush into any decisions. Maybe once you go home for a while, and talk things out with your family it will make the decision easier.

ok, so, read the question, now tell me what you find endeering about oz. i mean there are many beautiful spots there, but is that where you are living/working?
and now you've lived there, do you feel like an aussie, more than a scot? if so stay :)
maybe a move within oz may suit you both better, i'd recommend darwin, up in the northern territories, as far as peoples personalities go they are truely genuine, and did i say how beautiful it is up there, have you seen crocodile dundee???

I say stay in Aussie, find a ncie house in the country. Best way to bring up your kids in Australia. Try to avoid suburbs of of like melbourne and sydney even if they seem good now they will bee a **** hole in a few years. I live in south eastern suburbs of melb and i really enjoy the country. Everyone knows each other and are generally nice.

some aspects of Scotland are extremely great, the nation-state is thoroughly stunning. some placeslook solid & they have thrilling & personable human beings there. regrettably, many place there have such apallingly designed housing it scares human beings off. That and the scottish delicacies. whilst there is the humorous tale with regards to the Scottish liking deep fried mars bars it extremely is not too a procedures off actuality. the components is oftentimes extremely undesirable, which does no longer help.

Are you mad....go back to Scotland no way!- Have kids in Oz so they have the choice of living in either place when he/she is older - I'm sure I can guess which Country they'll choose. 'Over there' is finished, unless you want your kids to grow up amongst high crime, unfriendly people, cold weather etc then stay here in Australia, I really believe it is the best Country in the World.

Often times couples are unsettled until they have kids-- they simply have no reason to be anything other than unsettled. If you guys want kids, have them. The rest will come out of necessity. Yes, it will be stressful. But if you think you can handle it, do it.

For passport reasons yes. Always good to have dual citizenship (having UK and NZ myself). Very beneficial later in life. MIght need to check on how easy it is to get the child back into Aussie though.

If I felt as uneasy or unsure like yourself in that situation I would go back to your native land in Scotland.
Be where your family is and get the support.
