Any of you religious people want to answer this. Why do places like the vatican for example stockpile billions of dollars in art and crap like that for showboating, while millions go starving throughout the world. Wouldnt the money the church accumulates be better spent feeding starving people and helping make their communities self sufficient instead of extravagant monuments or buildings.

Can't speak for all of the Catholic churches wealth, but much of what it is holding on to is artifacts of religious or historic significance, with the intention of protecting and preserving these links to the past... it is not necessarily an accumulation of wealth. But many churches do put a lot more money into dressing up their facades than necessary, and that money could go into helping the needy.

Churches and governments who do not recognise Jesus Christ as their driving force and the savior of this planet are owned by Satan by default... thus practicing all seven deadly sins and breaking all ten commandments.

Witness the final temptation of Christ by Satan.
Satan took him high upon a mountain and asked him to bow before him with reward of all the kingdoms of the earth.

The answer Christ gave him was somewhat offensive.

The question remains as ; how could Satan give Christ the kingdoms of the earth if he did not own them?

Which religion does Christ support?
Those that follow the Word.

Not those that build power

The power and the glory are not ours, they belong to Christ alone.... as does the power of revenge.

Christ is coming to avenge his own death.
Against his sworn enemy... all that has been & gone and still exists since Babylon.... and now exists in the form of Holy Roman Church/Empire which is soon to rise again and almost destroy our planet.

Interceded by Christ at the final conflict.
Armageddon.

I believe that answers your question.

The Church does not spend money only on art, but they actually mostly spend piles of money on missions (helping the poor, feeding the hungry, giving clothes, Cathechism and everything else that has to do with sacrificing one's self for the good of others).

I have to agree with you. The Vatican is one of the richest. A percentage of their wealth should go to charitable works on a yearly basis. Yes, there are Catholic charities but the money for their work does not come from the Vatican, instead it is invested in opulence and art and banking and secret financial holdings. No one can penetrate that ivory tower. They do not even support their own priests who work with the neediest and poorest the world over. I say this in spite of being of the Catholic faith, but right is right and wrong is wrong.

Many Church's don't have buildings, art, etc. as you describe. Most Church's have humanitarian outreaches...food, water, housing aid, aid paying bills, gas vouchers, medical aid, etc. I know my church does (Lutheran) Plus, some people give, or bequeath, money designated for the church building fund and as such, that is the only place the money can go and be used.

i can only answer for mine, and i can tell you that we're not stockpiling anything...we step out in faith whenever we prepare the church budget, and there is never a dollar left over...if someone dropped a huge donation on us, we'd find some mission or charity that needs the money. you want to see some acumulation? watch a mass on EWTN...there's enough 'bling' on the altar to feed a third world village for a decade

Well considering that I am a former Catholic but am now Wiccan I feel the right to answer this question. Do you not realise the charity that the Catholic Churh does for the world. As Catholics some people devote their entire lives to help the poor and downtrodden and such as that, which is more than I can say for 99% of the Protestant denominations who just basically have weekend or weeklong mission trips to help the needy.

All the churches want you to send your money to the lord but they give you the churches address and not the Lord's. Maybe old hank williams jr. is a prophet.

Ask Pat Robertson about "Operation Blessing", a front group posing as a charity to protect his gold and diamond mine investments in Africa. He even urged Bush to intervene to keep Charles Taylor in charge of Liberia since Robertson had such a sweet deal going.

I know it drives me crazy, especially the churches that are more like arenas. I'm an atheist, but if there were a God I doubt he would want you to throw your money into a money hungry organization.
