I am a resident of the state of Missouri and I can legally hunt in Missouri. I am of legal age to hunt with a handgun in the state of Missouri and would like to take my handgun during the fall firearms season but do not wish to do so without my rifle. If you respond to my question please give me a credible source so as I may verify your information. Some tell me it is legal while others tell me it is against the law. I have e-mailed mdc.mo.gov but have not recieved a response as of yet. I plan to call my reginal and local conservation departments in the next few weeks but I thought I would go ahead and give "Yahoo! ANSWERS" a try. thank you

Oh I just cant wait to get out in them there woods with a handgun on my "hip" so I can look "cool"... Just some more info guys and gals, Missouri allows any handgun or rifle in any caliber as long as center fire cartriges with expanding type bullets are used. That means even something as small as a .22-250 or a .223 which to some people is way too small but that is another debate. Missouri absolutely allows hunting with a handgun... I want to hunt with both a handgun AND a rifle. keep those answers coming!!! thanks

The Missouri Deparment of Conservation e-mailed me... you can hunt with more than one gun as long as whatever you are hunting with is legal for the season. They even went so far as to tell me that with a CCW you can legally conceal the handgun while hunting. .40 caliber is the smallest in Missouri that one can use during muzzle loading season.

Most states don't care how many guns an individual Carry's. As long as are legal for the season. Because your not going to be shooting them all at once.

As for the handgun. Most states allows hunting with handguns. Although they do usually require the handgun meet the season requirements. Black powder hand guns during black powder season and so forth.

Also they usually have a requirement about the barrel length and the caliber.

Check with your states Game and Fish authority.

Good luck to ya. Hunting with a pistol is a great challenge.

I would venture to guess, in Missouri, as in Oklahoma, you can carry any or all weapons that are legal to hunt with during the rifle season. Bow season is the only season you can't carry a firearm. Primitive firearms season is limited to black powder arms.
If you don't know how to contact your local game ranger, call the sheriff's office and he can get you in touch.

yep, you can, on the condition that every weapon you're carrying, and every round of ammunition, is legal to hunt with.
That means not more than 10+1 capacity, no FMJ ammo, no laser sights, no multiple projectiles, etc. Interestingly, though black powder guns are required to be .36 caliber of larger, centerfire weapons have no such restriction - any centerfire caliber is legal, even is it's not advisable. Also, your pistol cannot be concealed unless you have a CCW permit.

I carry both a rifle and pistol chambered in .357magnum, loaded with the same ammunition.

Good Luck! Where are you planning to hunt?

I wouldn't suggest waiting a few weeks.....the fall firearms season open this Saturday Nov. 10th. I am flying into MO on Thursday to hunt with my friends out by Lake Ozark.....looking to be good hunting this year. My buddy said he is going to hunt with a pistol this year, so I would think it is legal, but if you find out otherwise I would like to know so that I can tell him.

Why would you need both? I assume your hunting deer? No reason to have both unless you just want to look cool with a pistol on your hip, in which case you shouldnt be out there anyway.

i dont know the answer to your question. but i would say you are on the right path, ask the State, what their requirements and limits and laws are, and you'll be fine im sure.
