This country was great it is still safe BUT we cannot open our mouths for fear of racism we cannot work and get paid well for it, cause others work for less and have to pay for less, the police is innafective and england is loosing its own identity, i was in spain and they openly celebrate past history where they slaughtered others in the name of religion, its just there history warts and all. We also pay for everything for instance we pay council tax which empties our bin now it looks like we will do this and also pay again for whats in it, we already pay way over the top and have rubbish services so why pay more, look at our roads, we don t want more of them just some tar mac on them eh! In spain my parents pay 200 ish pounds a year they have a big bin in the street and it is emptied daily at night all garden waste is also taken. This is just an example.

I don't hate the UK but I really hate what is happening to it and the way the majority of people are treating it. It is becoming overcrowded, agressive on the roads and society is becoming selfish as a result.

On the plus side we still have some beautiful countryside and wonderful wildlife (provided we don't build any more houses!) and some fantastic history and wonderful architecture, churches and cathedrals.
However when a lovely place starts to turn sour- as the UK is with overcrowding - it is the animal instinct to move out. So to answer your question - you are not alone in feeling this. I am looking at emigrating to NZ where there is a good quality of life, it is wide open, quiet and with few people. But my concern is that by leaving here and moving to another country - am I also doing the same to that country as what is happening to the UK? Well I hope not as I wont be part of a mass immigration programme that is out of control but I will have to apply and have all my skills approved on a points system.

It is really time for this goverment to wake up and look after this country. We just can't cope with the numbers coming in and the UK was overcrowded already. It has to stop now before the country sinks.

I felt the same but as they say absence makes the heart grow fonder, so I am heading back to England in the near future. The grass isn't any greener believe me, despite being a very well paid professional in a job I love, I am subjected to some poor treatment from the local population as I am an immigrant working on a Visa and taking someone elses job. This is exactly what immigrants in the UK go through so give those guys a break, if the jobs weren't available, they wouldn't be there. Think about it.

If you can, take a month off of work, and travel to the US (New York, Miami, Denver and L.A.); Canada, Hong Kong and Australia.

You will find good and bad points to each of these areas; but you will also find that the UK (your homeland) is the only place you can really feel like you are living at home.

Change comes from within, and usually rather slowly.

Join local organizations that have some pull with the local government and politicians, like a Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, et al. Your influence, with the support of others, may make your environment more comfortable.

I agree Maris Piper. I was born and brought up in the UK and have watched it go down the toilet in recent years. I resent paying my taxes towards 15 year old mothers so they get free flats and the exploding immigrant population who come here and are housed over nationals and the workshy people who get a free house and benefits so don't need to work. I have a childhood friend - a single mum who's kids are 12 and 8 and shes never worked a day in her life, I suggested she should work full/part time when she told me she was bored one day and she told me she had thought about it but decided it wasn't worth it because her council rent would go up as would her council tax, she would actually be more out of pocket. Why does the government make it so easy for people not to work? Anyway enough of my little rant. Marris I am lucky I am leaving the country next summer with my son - I just cant take it anymore. I work my guts out and for what????? Everything here is overpriced my mortgage is crippling me so Im outta here. BTW I am a British born Indian and my grand parents emmigrated to the UK in the 1950's they grafted all their lives, purchased their own house and never claimed a penny in benefits their whole lives. How times have changed.

Well, there's alot of rich culture and to be quite frank, it wouldn't be a 1/2 bad country if you kick the liberals to the curb and get rid of the "multi cultural" ideology.
Jolly ol' England has alot of pride and accomplishment. It was the father nation that gave rise to America , whom carried on with its own version of freedom and prosperity, but molded by the island nation first.
Personally I fear that the US in time will lose a bit of its identity and forget that we are a nation with its own identy and traditions. We allow immigration to the US but should always enforcing the fact that you must be an American first, and your different cultural identy second.

Surely there is one thing about your country you love. the spring are something that makes you smile. are to know that you can go out look for work anywhere. ok most places now seem to do police checks on every potential employee. i ask can a potential employee go to the police and ask has the company been complained about for blue collar crime are anything. can you do a check to see does it sell to nations you don't want to do business with. no one ever thinks of this do they, i had an interview with a company that in fact was part of a company that sold torture equipment to the middle east. i sure would not work for such a company for reasons of human rights. yet when i told the job centre that i would not take the job they threatened me with losing my benefit.

I don't hate my country (USA), but we have a lot of problems just like the rest of the world. I've heard the same complaints from other Americans, Brits, French, Germans, Aussies, Chinese, Russian, Brazilian, Indonesian, all complaining about their country. Mostly it revolves around making it financially, and having a safe place to live away from violence. Some people argue about -ism like socialism, liberalism, etc. But it really only boils down to the quality of life.
