Like all of Henry guns, the two that you are asking about are sweet shooters. I have shot both but own neither. I am thinking of buying the Henry lever action chambered in the .17 HMR. I didn't rule out the pump for any other reason than the fact that I alrready have a Winchester pump .22. The pump is a bit lighter and would make for a little less to carry all day on a squirrel hunting trip but the lever action is a great gun. I don't know that there is any particular value of one over the other. It's pretty much which one you like best.

As for ammo, I have only shot .22 long rifle in them. I don't know if either will shoot .22 shorts or not. Until you have one of the rifles, it is hard to say which brand or type of ammo it will like best. .22 rimfires are sort of like a muzzleloader in how it likes a particular load over any other. It seems that you can have two rifles of the same make and model and yet one will prefer one brand of ammo and the other will prefer a different brand. It's like they have personalities and you just have to get to know them. What I do with a new .22 is to take several brands of ammo to the range and try several rounds of each one in the gun to see what its preference is. Any rifle will be pretty quiet with subsonic rounds. The Henrys are no different in this respect.

Henry is an excellent choice and I know yuou will be happy with whichever one you decide to buy.

I had both, the lever is okay for one shot but its awkward when trying to rapid fire, the pump by far is superior in continuous shooting.think like the 22. was a shot gun,Pumps,no levers.as for ammo 22 long rifle is all I used.

Bolt action would be a better choice.*
