If your insurance doesn't pay for the surgery because it's excluded, there is nothing you can do to get them to cover the expense. If they turned you down for other reasons, find out what those reasons are. Use your Human resourses Dept to help you. You can appeal that decision, or you can do the things they require you to do. I had the surgery and it took me 5 years, but I finally had the insurance pay all but $2500. Someone suggested that if you really want the surgery, to find a different job with different insurance. That is a big step, but so is being healthy.
Another thing to think about is having the surgery in Mexico. Don't say no yet. I belong to a Yahoo group called Weight Loss Surgery Friendship & Support. There are quite a few people who had the surgery in Mexico and say the cleanliness and care was better than the US. You could join the group and ask for advise about it. I had mine at Johns Hopkins and the care there was terrible.
To raise money...have you tried your Church? They sometimes help. Also, just save some money every week, have yard sales, have bake sales, wash cars, walk dogs, mow people's grass...there is always ways to make money if you really feel this surgery is for you. Plus, the little bit of exercise could help if it's not too painful. Good luck with your journey.

if your health and life are at risk from the weight then most insurance companies only require a letter from your doctor saying your weight is life threatening or that it is causing a life threatening condition. you may have to keep at the insurance company, because this surgery is very expensive and they do not want to pay if there is another way that is cheaper to fix the problem. this is a last resort solution so you must be very sure this is the route you are willing to take. this surgery will fix the weight problem but, you must be willing to change your entire life. this is not like going on a diet, you can not stop when you get tired of it. this surgery is permanent and not reversible.

i've heard instances where people allow companies to tattoo their advertisement into their bodies and get paid a lot of money. it could be slightly degrading, but if you make a website, posting screenshots of such logos from your body parts, maybe these companies will sponsor you.
of course, to get publicity, you will have to contact whatever online related newsmedia, (or offline) to promote your website.
since it is very unique, they might take it as a news, and with more publicity, the more companies will sponsor you.
i'm sorry this might be a degrading topic, but survival is the most important thing right?

Use a vegetable bean dip like hummus instead of ranch dressing or possibly a fatty cream-based dip.

When out at a restaurant, ask the server to hold the bread, snack mix or chips and salsa that could come before the meal. For anyone who is hungry, you'll be tempted.
