I can understand that. It's not odd at all.
I prefer the smell of old books, though. Hence why I have a collection of antique books...the oldest from 1729.

I love the smell of new books as well.

No, if it's new it has that great new thingy smell, whether it's a car, a book or a video game... unless it's feces.
