First off, i would imagine they are often WRONG, but for the sake of an interesting show she's always RIGHT. Secondly, are profilers that involved? Out in the field like that, taking control?

The program is made to showcase one individual. If you listen near the end of the show it states that she "and her department" solved the crime. I have seen a couple shows where she mis read what she saw. The show is made to "basically" let you know how they work and help local agencies. Many police departments simply call their State agency with all the info they have and get a report sent back to them.

It completely depends on what they're working on.. but in general.. criminal profilers are not out in the field taking control like that.
