If it is the toxicity of the lead that is your concern, you can purchase non-lead shot shells. They are the required load for hunting migratory waterfoul. However, your follow up to your question seems to indicate that you have ruled out guns completely. If so, there are a few things that you can try. Certaily a slingshot is one of them. You can use lead balls that you buy from a store that sells lead balls for muzzleloaders. I'd recommend at least a .50 caliber ball and .54 would be even better. No problem with lead toxicity because the lead ball is not likely to have enough energy to penetrate the rabbit, at least not very far. It is the shock of being hit by a large lead ball that does the killing. Of course you may have to do a quick follow up dispaching with a stick. The American Indian hunted small game with a throwing stick. They chose a heavy handy size stick that was about an inch to an inch and a half in diameter and about two feet long. They would sneek up on the game and kill it by throwing the stick at it. It works but takes a lot of practice and stalking skills. Another choice is the crossbow but with a crossbow, you have a very great chance of loosing bolts (crossbow arrows) unless, perhaps, they make blunt pointed crossbow bolts similar to the judo points.. Perhaps the best choice is a bow and arrow. Use only the judo arrow points because the others will immediately become lost when you fire them. They have an uncanny way of sliding through the grass for a long distance and completely disappearing. That gets very expensive very quickly. The judo arrows have such a point that they immediately grab onto the grass, brush, etc. and stop so that they can be easily recovered when you miss. They also do not penetrate the rabbit so you don't loose any meat. The arrow has enough energy that when the rabbit is hit by the judo point, it is immediately killed by the shock. It would be like you getting hit by a flying fence post.

Beagles will hunt rabbits. If I had to hunt a rabbit without Lead I would go buy steel shot. A few public places have switched to a no lead policy. A good bow set up with the proper broadhead tips on the arrows good take a few rabbits also. You could also trap the bunnies in a box trap. I would check all local regulations before you hunt or trap any protected wild game to prevent a ticket.

I nailed one with a Craftsman 15/16 combination wrench from the ladder of a combine years ago. A .22 works FAR better though. What's the objection to lead bullets?

How about a crossbow. Check to see if they are legal to use for hunting in your state.

you could always buy steel shot for a shotgun. That would probably be your best bet.
