Spooning is a position in bed although may not imply sex. It is a form of couple cuddle snuggle, where you lie on your side and one party snuggles up againts the others back- in effect being a "spoon" or laddeling the other. Whilst it is usefull for pregnant women, the woman does not always have to be in the front - the male the spoon. As the spoon-ee is in a some what powerless position -this may be the reason why the male is typically the spoon (where sex is not the aim). Very close same sex friends may also engage in the spoon.
