unless you stop the adult from shoving 2,000 calorie meals down their throats there will be little effect on the offspring. children mimic what they see their parents doing not what their parents tell them to do...

I read all the answers above and find some of the points interesting. I agree it should be parents' responsibility to see their children are healthy. Banning fast food won't work as it would likely be viewed as not legal. If parents think fast food is the culprit, they can take the steps to reduce the intake.

I also think that kids know if they are fat and to stay that way. Parents can take the time to understand their kids and help them develop naturally.

From my own personal experience, I was a very fat kid. I was 250 by 5th grade, 350 by 9th grade and over 450 when I finished high school. My diet hardly ever included fast foods and my parents always had good food for us. I always like to eat and I know I ate and still do eat a lot. I was always a fat child and a very fat teenager. I loved being that way. Of course I dealt with other kids making fun of me - especially when my size made it harder to play or do sports. My PE teachers would help but they could also tell I was happy and would try. High school made for interesting scenes especially when I had to have chairs in class instead of the combined desk/chair units. I would not trade being fat again. I still am fat - very much so at 620. If the kids are fat, well adjusted and happy, maybe they want to be that way.

To be honest, food is advertised on television and also on the radio. If you are travelling in a car, there are usually fast food restaurants in every town you go through. So, taking the ads off of tv won't really do the trick. The parents need to teach their children how to eat healthy and not give in to all the children's "wants" of junk food with no nutrative value in it. I also think that many of the parents are to blame for their children being obese, not that the televisions ads don't add to the problem. Magazines and the Internet are also bad places for kids to get tempted by food. If they are outside playing and the children are supervised by the parents while they are playing, eating and they do not give in to the junk food urges many children crave, we would be much better off.
And not all parents that have obese children are fat. They might lack the discipline to say no to their children, but that is very stereotypical to say that fat parents are the ones with the fat children. That is not always the absolute truth (but of course there are exceptions to every rule). I've seen vegetarian parents that are thin let their kids whatever they want. So, it is not fair to say that all kids that are obese come from fat parents.

hmmm well where do I start.

Ok first off its not the commercials its the toys they get in the meal. I fixed the problem with my kids by saying we go there to eat not play or get toys. (Just don't get them the kids meal) than they will not associate fast food with a toy. hence have less interest and begging to go there.

Second I hate to be rude but most kids follow by exampal. In other word (Take in mind this does not imply heath problems that may make the child obese) but if the parents do nothing but sit a round all day, so will the kids.

There is a reason in grade school by law they have to have recess.

get off the computer and go play with the kids
(outside preferably (fresh air is good for them))
This will prevent them from seeing the commercials to. (Kinda cool hay)
but there kids they have to stay moving.

Like I said In most and NOT ALL cases its the parents not the child.

it is stupid. Why are human beings attempting to limit the failings that carry contained in the most money to united statesa. (quick nutrition and Tobacco). What are human beings meant to get at the same time as money or time is short? The unemployment price is already extreme and could in easy words get more advantageous if we ban quick nutrition eating places. i keep in mind that operating at a short nutrition joint isn't the superb pastime to have in spite of the indisputable fact that it is nonetheless an area for the unemployed to get a job. also if someone really needed a McDonald's cheeseburger i'm highly certain that they might merely bypass to the close by keep, purchase the elements, and make it themselves. drugs were unlawful because the starting up of time and yet human beings nonetheless take care of to arise with them.

If the parents eat healthy, then their children will too. Ever noticed that obese children tend to belong to obese parents? Strange that huh. If the parents don't buy crappy food, the kids can't eat it. A bit of education on the part of the parents isn't going to hurt either. The amount of crap that kids bring in their lunchboxes is disgusting.

Yes I think so for every commercial you see there is what they call subliminal messages. These we see everyday of our lives. Which in turn our children sees these and it is a form of mind control. We as a nation are so controled by these messages that it is almost second nature to us to go out and buy anything it does not have to be food. But entertainment or in business life. Check it out. Search websites on subliminal control. Everyday we are impacted in life with this. But most of the population can not control our shopping that we most of the time will not accept why we want all these things. They call that subliminal advertisements.
