Think about this. A Marine stands at attention in his dress blues. Standing tall. A former man (Osama's right hand man) who used to work for Osama Bin Laden (And now has Amnesty due to all being forgiven for the killing of USA soldiers in order to get along in the Middle East) walks up to the Marine and "barks" an order to the Marine "Fetch my well watered Camel and then pick all the fleas off his body". Well, getting back to the question "World Military"....Naw!! Not going to work. Never!!

Do tell how agreement would be made to run it and who would fund it, by that I mean how do you intend to work out who carries the most cost.
Do you also think it would be possible to find a large body of people, train them to be loyal just to the world in general? and give them guns?
Just who would this world army be intended to use against??
Leaving out all Religious, Political, Ethnic, traits??

For Michael P;
the U.N. has not got its own specific military force, countries are asked to contribute troops for specific missions, they wear mainly their own uniforms and insignia of the country they come from with the addition of a U.N. Shoulder Badge and blue Hats, Berets, Helmets, all their vehicles are painted white with U.N. logo.
There are major differences of military training and language to be encountered as well although English & French are often the main "common" language encountered.

The U.N. also does not have an automatic mandate to go anywhere and do anything, it is run on a very basic democratic principle.

if that happened now it would be a glorified police force instead of a federal military. The only way there could ever be a world military was if there was another faction on a scale greater than countries like a separate planet because the whole point of a military is to protect one faction from another faction on the same scale as its self like country vs country or world vs world

It'd only be really possible if the nations of the world completely federated. I don't think the US government would take too kindly to their military forces being part of a greater force and used for the purposes of other nations. They can't stand the idea of being ordered around by other people.

I'd rather the European Union federated instead, created their own continental military and became a newer, more sensible superpower to keep those crazy Americans in check.

There is another truly stupid idea.

The UN operates what is ostensibly the worlds military force; it doesn't work. It doesn't work because soldiers aren't willing to take aggressive action against their own people.

well if everyone got along enough to make a world military then we wouldn't need a military to begin with.

america's military exists to support america's government, not the collective governments of the world.
