don't use human shampoo... it has a different sph or something like that....
i used human shampoo once on my dog before.. it made her skin worse.
i have a pitbull, jay. he had skin problems too.. turned out to be some kind of flea allergy. take him to the vet. or just buy oatmeal shampoo at your local pet store.

The flakes could be dry skin. Try rubbing some baby oil into his fur once in a while. Or you can give fish oil with his food(twice per day). It helps the heart, digestive system and keeps the dogs coat shinny.
When you bath him, you should use dog shampoo because it is specially formulated for the dogs fur(instead of human hair).
I love pit bulls. They are so smart and loyal. They love to be in your lap or wherever you are.
Good luck!

Most likely its just dry skin and him needing a bath. I wouldnt suggest using human shampoo on your puppy, but if you must, use Baby shampoo, preferrably tearless. Remember that dogs can have sensitive skin and dont want shampoo in their eyes, just like people. I own two pit bulls, neither has sensitive skin, but a lab mix I previously owned could only use an unscented oatmeal shampoo.

My pit has bad allergies and for some time she was real itchy and shedding WAY more than she should. turns out she's allergic to fleas, an antibiotic helped with the rash but not the itchy-ness and shedding....then it turned out she's allergic to corn! switched her dog food to something that did not contain corn and she's MUCH BETTER! (my vet told me many dogs are allergic to corn, especially the pit...) try a food that DOES NOT have corn...may make you pup better all over! (also go to you vet or pet smart and get a good puppy shampoo that states it is gentle....it may also be recommended to get a medicated shampoo to use to help the skin problem clear)

Have the vet check his skin since you just got him. That way you can be sure there isn't some underlying condition you could aggravate.
I have a retriever with very sensitive skin and the vet warned us NEVER to use human shampoo on a dog. He said a human can use dog shampoo but not the other way around. It can cause terrible reactions and hot spots.

Go to the pet shop and buy the dog shampoo for getting rid of dandruff, and pick up a bottle of Omega 3 fatty acid supplement. Follow the directions on the bottle, add to his food every day and it will slowly get better. My dog has the same thing and it has taken over a month to work.

ok...if u use people shampoo use the baby shampoo johnson and johnson. other than that the shampoo i use on my pit is a dog shampoo with oatmeal in it...all my pits i've owned, had sensitive skin and shampoo with oatmeal is really good for that. but dont use panteen or any other people shampoo b/c first off its for people so use dog shampoo...look at ur stores pet section or go to ur vet or go to petco, or pet smart

Look at the food you are feeding. Possibly try a higher quality food.
