thanks to all who answered. I will definitely pursue this. Difficulty is that it is a family member of mine who I believe is suffering from this syndrome and I am the aunt of the children.

Contact your local Child Protective Services and file a complaint. They will look into it from there.

In atleast some cases, Social Services would prefer to place the child(ren) in the home of relatives, rather than a foster home where the child knows no one.

Someone must speak-up for the child, someone must stop the abuse -- bless you.
If there is no action taken by authorities with this report, do not hesitate to report each time you suspect it again. They need to have a provable case.

1-800-4-A-CHILD 1-800-422-4453. This is the number for Childhelp child abuse national hotline. The call is free and anonymous. Just dial the number and press 1 to talk to a counselor. I hope it turns out that the suspicion is just that..but if not hopefully the person (victim and offender) will get the help they need. Good Luck and dont wait..

go to the police dept if you are in a city. if you are in the county go to the sheriffs dept. ask to speak to a male or female officer, which ever one you are more comfortable with. they may want you to fill out a vol. statement about what you know, heard,or feel. you may also ask that your conversation be anonymous and confidential do not let this go unreported. only you can make this decision. if it is hear say, and true, or talk from someone that is trying to make problem for a child and the care taker of this child or children, also needs to be addressed. if not happening, don't feel guilt,or ashamed. be thankful for your courage.
praying for all involved

Social Services. And tell them everything you know. And what you suspect. Once the trail is started, those type of cases are very hard to hide.

I wouldn't be surprised if the child's doctor hasn't suspected it. I have heard on programs doctors say "we suspect Munchhausen by proxy but in fear of retaliation and fear of losing our license we tend to find other reasons"

If you suspect it by all means please call the child protective services. You can remain anonymous.
