I'm living in New York City and I'm flying out to Los Angeles to see my family for Thanksgiving. Now I have a bunch of young nieces and nephews (ages 6-14) and they are absolutely crazy over sweets. This is my first year in NYC, and so I wanted to bring them something sweet and New Yorkish. It hit me to buy two dozen Magnolia Bakery cupcakes.

Now the question: am I allowed to carry-on these cupcakes? I can't check them in or they will definately lose their shape and get messy. My best thought was to buy a bunch of plastic containers and put the cupcakes in it so that they're "sealed". Is this viable? Or should I rethink what to get my nieces/nephews and buy other sweets (any suggestions to this also?)?

Yes! you can take them with you i carried something like that in a trip from SF to LA and nothing happenned. So you can buy more cupcakes if you want lol.
The only things that they dont allow are liquids and gels.
Dont worry and have a good trip!!

Make some rolls. Take some skinny white bread and butter, roll up some asparagus spears with a tip poking out slightly at each and every end with slightly mayonnaise like you would a cigarette, and earlier than serving shrink in 1/2 and stand on end. Devilled Eggs, Fruit Kebabs, Fruit Pizza. Mince Savouries (mini meat pies)

Yes, solid food is allowed. Only liquid is not allowed in carry-ons. Stuff like jam and maple syrup can be put in check-in bags, but not in carry-on bags.

As long as its not liquid you shouldn't have a problem. Don't put the cupcakes in the overhead bin because they will get crushed.

Or you could take some nice colour photos, eat them and write a food lovers critique..... then buy the kids some toffee when you get there?

You can carry it on. You can bring any food as long as it isn't a liquid.
