my grandma has a pretty bad headache today. Shes had some before, but never this bad. One side of her head hurts. she has arteriosclerosis. Could her headache be related to that? Could she be having a migraine? What are the signs of a migraine?

I have had migraines for about 25 years. For me I usually have pain on one side of my head, am very, very sensitive to light, very, very sensitive to any sort of noise - especially loud noise. Sometimes I feel sick to my stomach and generally lose my appetite for the day. I generally take some medicine my doctor gave me and put a cold wet cloth over my eyes and try to sleep.
My migraines generally make me want to sleep for 24 to 48 hours. They generally make me super, super, super sleepy. I have felt like if I don't go to bed I will just fall down and sleep where ever!!!!!!
The one thing that I don't get very often is the need to throw up.
If these headaches continue - please, please have her go to the regular doctor and then to a neurologist to get a proper diagnosis.
Good luck with this.

I take it from your answer you really don't want to take any meds for this if possible, right? I hope so because you shouldn't have to. A headache is caused by tight muscles in your neck, and working on the computer as much as you do is going to help tighten it up. You should be doing something to keep more movement into your body or you can end up in some serious health issues in a short time and lack of exercise is the main cause of those issues. Back to the pain. Here is a way of releasing your neck muscles to help get rid of the pain: Neck Invert your hands and put them next to your head placing your thumbs in under your ears and you lower your head until your neck is fully extended, release the pressure but hold your head there for another 30 seconds. You can also try this, a little quick release that you can do almost anywhere if you are hit with more of the head pains: Press your fingers or thumbs into your temples and hold them there for a minimum of 30 seconds or until desired amount of relief is reached.

Someone in your family should take her to Urgent Care immediately.
