According to the Bible in Exodus 26:34 The Holy of Holies was the place for keeping the Ark of the covenant. Here the two tablets of stone containing the ten commandments were kept (Ex 31:18) In the Hebrew it's called the Ark of witness.
According to Deuteronomy 9:10 the tablets of stone contained the words which God spoke.
According to Judaism these words are the ten commandaments. These are the ultimate objective and the highest level of understanding of God and obedience to His laws.
The people of Israel used to go to the Temple to learn the word of God, known as Torah, three times a year; Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles.
This is why the prophet Isaiah said that the Torah will go out from Zion (the place where the Temple stood; Is 2:3)
Jews aspired to elevate themselves to the level where they would be worthy to come close to the Holy of Holies. The way to do this was to purify themselves, to study and be obedient to God's word and to perform sacrifices.
Today, since the destruction of the Temple prayer has taken the place of sacrifices, but some of the methods of purification have been lost.
This is why Jews can't fulfill their obligation to ascend to the level of the Holy of Holies.
Prayer at the Western Wall (a remnant of the outer courtyard of the Temple) is an expression of this unattainable Jewish aspiration.

The Santuary has two compartments. The Holy which is the outer compartment contained the table of shewbread, the altar of incense, and the candlestick. It was into this compartment that the priests entered twice a day to perform the morning and evening sacrifice, also know as the daily or perpetual, signifying Christ's continual application of His blood for the redemption of our sins. In this way sin was deposited into the sanctuary throughout the year.
The innermost compartment, known as the Holy of Holies was where the Ark of the Covenant rested. Inside the Ark were the tables of the law, the 10 Commandments, Aaron's rod that budded, and a bowl of manna. Above the Ark sat the Mercy Seat where the glory of God's presence was revealed.
The High Priest entered this compartment only once per year to cleanse the sanctuary from the sins of the people. On this day, known as Yom Kippur, both the sanctuary and the people were clean. All the sins of the people had been transferred to the sanctuary, and all the sins had been were then removed from the sanctuary. This model of the sanctuary in the OT was made like unto the true santuary in heaven where Christ our High Priest now mediates for His people.

It was the inner room of the temple. Only high priests were allowed in that area of the temple, and it housed the Ark of the Covenant, a set of scripture, or writings that were scripture at the time, and an alter. Once a year, the high priests would sacrifice a firstling of the flock, the most perfect lamb, to God. This was to represent the suffering and death of the Son.
The priests would also watch over the Ark of the Covenant, and receive additional revelation in the Holy of Holies. It was a very quiet, calm, serene place. It was said to be the closest thing to heaven and God that was on the earth.

The Kadosh Hakadashim, Hebrew: (Biblical: קֹ×Ö¶×©× ×ַקֳּ×ָש×Ö´×× Qá¹á¸eÅ¡ HaqQÅá¸Äšîm), "Holy of Holies", the most sacred site in traditional Judaism, is the inner sanctuary within the Tabernacle and Temple in Jerusalem when Solomon's Temple and the Second Temple were standing.
It could be entered by the High Priest only on Yom Kippur.
Traditional Judaism regards the location where the inner sanctuary was originally located, on the Temple Mount in Mount Moriah, as retaining some or all of its original sanctity for use in a future Third Temple. The exact location of the Kadosh Hakadashim is a subject of dispute.

In the old city of Jerusalem, in the temple.
Only the High Priest, once a year is allowed in, for sacrafice...according to the OT.
Now that Jesus is OUR High Priest, we can talk straight to him.
This is the very reason the curtain was torn in the temple, showing that you have direct talk with God, now that Jesus died and lives again for you.
Check out that fact in the NT, gospels, Math/Mark/Luke/John
Mathew and Mark were fisherman, Luke was a Doctor of Med. And John was Jesus closest friend and did not die a martyr death, but was exiled and wrote Revelation.
The holy of holies is OT. The law was fulfilled by Christ.
It is no longer necessary for animal sacrifice, as Jesus was our lamb of atointment.
Yes, there will be a test.

The Holy of Holies was a room in the Temple that King Solomon built for God.
In that room only the High Priest was allowed to enter and only once a year.
And that's the only room where the Holy Spirit dwelled.
But because of Jesus Sacrifice for our sins we are able to accept the Holy Spirit into ourselves so in a sense each one of us who has the Holy Spirit has the Holy of Holies residing within us.
In order for this to happen we had to be forgiven of our sins and have our sinful nature removed from within us and inherit the very nature of God Himself.
But only those Christians who not only believe in God but love Him and accept Him will recieve the Holy Spirit and they have to repent of their sins and lose the desire to sin as well.
The kingdom of God resides within me and I can't begin to tell you what a difference it has made in my life to have been taken out of this dark sinful world and given one of light and holiness instead.
Sin is the same to me as a dog who turns back to it's own vomit.
It's absolutely disgusting.
But that's what the Holy of Holies was the room where the Holy Spirit of God resided until He could make way to directly live within each of us.
