I have really bad anxiety. What are the best treatments for chronic, intense worry and anxiety? I will consider pharmaceuticals, herbs, supplements, and anything else.

I really need to get a handle on this because it creates a lot of problems in my life (job, etc.) and my relationships.

I have tried a number of antidepressants in the past. None of them did a thing except Celexa, which made my anxiety DISAPPEAR!! However, I had extreme side effects that forced me to go off the medication. This experience made me believe that my anxiety is chemically based.

I have anxiety at times too. Think about what triggers anxiety for you? Why would it cause you anxiety? Write down what it is, and why it may be causing you anxiety. Try and take some yoga classes, and meditation, deep breathing is also important. When we get stressed we tend to take short shallow breaths. Just remember that you have to keep working at it, it won't happen overnight.

Hope this Helps,

there's only one hope for depression. That is an effective anti depressant medication. Depression comes from a checmical imbalance in the neurotransmitters and the brain and nothing in the world will alleviate unless you compensate for it. The right medication will do it. When you're depressed, you're unable to interact with a therapist by talking or be with or around anyone so talk therapy won't work. Being around people is a waste because the loss of interest makes it difficult to tolerate company and again, verbal interaction. You will have no desire for pets or taking care of animals as it's too labor intensive, too complex and your mind can't handle it. Excercise requires motivation which you have none. Until you can compensate for the chemical imbalance that's causing the depression and anxiety, none of these suggestions are useful.. Once you regain your sense of motivation and desire to do things, only then can any interaction or activity possibly help feel good.. There are ssri's, snri's mao inhibitors and trycyclic anti depressants. Some work better than others depending on the individdual. It is frustrating until you find one that works well with tolerable side effects. If none of these are ever an option, try ect (shock therapy)l

An herbal remedy that may be helpful is Bachs Rescue Remedy. Available OTC at health food stores. Also Valerian or Kava Kava.
Sometimes Vistaril, a prescriptive, drug can be helpful if it doesn't make you too sleepy.
Maybe suggest it to your doctor.
Did you discuss this with your MD? It's important to try what the MD recommends. If you have a problem with the drug, let MD know. Sometimes it can take a week or two for some antianxiety medication to work. Also some side effects such as extreme tiredness may present only after a month or two on the medication.,

How long were you on the Celexa? I was having REALLY bad anxiety attacks for a while there...and for no reason at all. They just popped up out of no where. It was so frustraiting..but then I started Celexa and for the first few weeks on it, it seemed like I only got worse. I had zapping feelings in my head and it felt like I was going to pass out at times..but then soon my body settled and the medication worked like a charm.

The only purpose of a drug is to make money for the drug company. The sicker you are the more money they make. Healthy people will make them broke. See site below with natural help with anxiety. Everyone feels the anxiety. The more you feel, the less happy and more miserable you are.

You want instead to feel perfect peace. Drugs suppress symptoms just like getting drunk gets rid of all your problems.

Please try regular daily exercise, relaxation, meditation and a healthy diet before deciding to go to a psychiatrist, because they will try to convert you to the use of anti-depressants for the rest of your life. They receive money from the pharmaceutical companies every time they write a prescription.
I would recommend a psychologist instead but if you can, stay away from both.
All the best.
