Just got back from the Millenium Stadium and even the tunnel visioned American fans who were picking Kessler must have been impressed with Joes display tonight. I think Kessler fought well in defeat and proved as we all said that whoever lost this fight at worst would be known as the 2nd best SuperMiddleweight in the world and i think he did that. Great fight and on the verge of a masterclass from Calzaghe in my eyes, does anyone else agree.

CR - Kessler beat Markus Beyer and Anthony Mundine who are both very tough fighters. As for your comment about fighting in his own backyard, why would he want to fight in America in front of 15000 fans when he can fight in front of 60000 of his own fans at home.
I dont see your boy Mayweather who you Americans call the best pound for pound fighting outside Vegas anytime soon do you.

Joe - i think a match up with Pavlik would be mouth watering for us fans but i think Calzaghe looks to be moving up to Light heavy next and with Kelly staying at Middle for his rematch against Taylor it looks like that fight may be some way off yet.

CR - sounds like you really know your boxing, who would you say is the best supermiddleweight then the great Jeff Lacy who was the next Mike Tyson until Calzaghe wiped the floor with him, cant wait for some future discussion with yourself as your knowledge on the sport seems to be overflowing, i would guarentee you are a big Mayweather fan.

I agree Frank, I absolutely agree. After this fight there can be no doubt about Joe in any objective mind. He cemented his legacy in boxing history tonight and proved to everyone in no uncertain terms that he is indeed the best boxer in the world at this moment and truly one of the greatest this sport has ever produced.
To be perfectly honest, after everything that he has done, at this point of his career I would definitely rank Joe at top 10 on p4p all time list and if he were to go on and retire undefeated he could be top 5 easily in my opinion.
Love or hate Calzaghe (and I must admit I was never really a very big fan of his) there is nothing anyone can do after his performance tonight, but take their hats off and acknowledge his skill, his talent and a true boxing greatness that this man most certainly is.
And I can not believe that someone would actually bring Kessler's credibility into question here, I really can't. I mean, just who in the hell would you have pointed out before tonight as more competent fighter to fight Joe and finally test him once and for all, if not this man?! I dare you to name one! Kessler gave his best in this match, it was a valiant effort, truly becoming of a world champion, but unfortunately for him, against Joe it just wasn't enough.

This still doesn't prove much. Calzaghe won't take a fight unless it's in his own back yard. Who has Kessler beaten? Librado Andrande? Give me a break.

Markus Beyer and Anthony Mundine is all you got? Beyer and Mundine haven't beaten any top ranked fighters. Calzaghe is an average boxer that chooses to fight below average fighters in his own back yard. End of story.

Actually I'm not a fan of Mayweather. I will say this, someone will beat Mayweather one day but Ricky Hatton won't be the fighter to do it. Hatton is too small and he has no punching power at 147.

I won't be discussing too much boxing with you the Brits only show up here when Hatton and Calzaghe fight. You aren't really fight fans, you are just fans of 2 fighters from your homeland. There is a big difference.

Absolutely. I've seen Calzaghe fight before, but he really Impressed me tonight. When he embarrassed Jeff Lacey, I thought maybe Lacy was terribly overrated, But what I saw tonight was something else. Kessler is a world class fighter who was completely dominated by a much better opponent. I am very impressed.
As for that "pound for pound" garbage I think that it is nothing more than a media catch phrase, and I despise Mayweather.

Joe Calzaghe vs. Kelly Pavlik
similar styles, what do you think?

Very impressive. Kessler, IMO, won most of the exchanges early and landed the much cleaner and harder shots. But Joe took them well and boxed circles around Kessler after the 5th. I forget what round it was, but that body shot Joe landed was the BIG turning point, that's when the tide completely favored Joe. Kessler will be back he is a world class fighter and a classy guy. Did you hear his post fight interview? He was honest and gave Joe all the credit and didn't have any excuses.
