You can certainly teach an older dog. I rescued one of my dogs from a shelter when she was 3 years old and she learned a lot of new tricks when I got her. You just have to find what motivates them!

Sure, 3 is not at all too old to train a dog. You might have to come up with some different ways of getting the idea across, or you might have to work on behaviours that aren't acceptable, but you can still train a 3 year old dog.

OF COURSE! A 3 year old dog isn't that old. When my mom found our dog he was already trained so i don't know how hard it will be. You should find some training classes like at Petsmart or Pet CO.

Yes, you can train dogs at any age. There are some excellent books on how to understand and train your dog. I highly recommend a professional dog trainer if you can get one. It's not just about training the dog. It's about understanding his behavior and helping to modify his current behavior in a positive way to get desired results.

ABSOLUTELY!!!! I have an 8 y.o. and a 9 y.o who are both learning new skills. The 9 y.o. never had any training until I moved in with her dad. She didn't know a single command. She now knows sit, off, outside, inside, leave it, kitty (would rather she didn't know this one), and is learning down and agility. My 8 y.o. just learned how to high 5 today and we are working on clockwise & counterclockwise circles. If you want to teach a new behavior it will be easier than trying to undo an unwanted behavior. The key with any training is practice, patience and consistency. Good luck!

YES! I've actually found it easier to train adult dogs rather than puppies. Older dogs are just as food/toy/treat motivated as puppies without all the spastic energy do deal with. Plus they tend to have a much longer attention span than younger dogs.

Good Luck!

Of course you can, it may take a little longer if he's developed bad habits. But old dogs CAN learn new tricks, and love doing so.

You certainly can teach an old dog new tricks. :)
I would check with local pet stores for obedience classes.

Good Luck!
