More exercise and mental stimulation, he's very likely bored.

Don't leave him outside unattended, this way you can correct him for digging holes.

You can also give him his own area to dig in. Rope off a small section of your yard, or give him a sand box. I've known people to teach their dogs to dig under the deck, or other area that isn't easily seen.

Once you have your area picked out show it to him and encourage him to dig there. When he does reward him lavishly. When you see him dig somewhere he shouldn't tell him NO in a firm tone and take him to his digging spot. Encourage him to dig there and praise when he does. It'll take some time but he can learn to dig in his own area, rather than your entire yard.

But again, he needs mor exercise and more mental stimulation, you may want to consider obedience classes (all dogs can use these) and maybe agility. Fun for both of you.

Remember a tired dog is a good dog.

Terriers were bred to chase and catch vermin so it comes natural to your Jack Russell. There are two things you can do. First of all, give your dog a place in your yard that he is allowed to dig. Put some of his toys in the dirt there and encourage him to dig there. Try catching him being a good dog in his hole, and correct him when he tries to dig in other spots. The places that you do not want him to dig, try putting his feces in the holes. Dogs do not like digging their own feces!

Jack Russell's were originally bred to go after vermin-moles, rats, and other animals that like to hide underground. Your dog is just doing what he is naturally inclined to do. Unfortunately for your yard, you probably won't be able to stop the behavior. What you can do though is make him his own "digging area". This area and only this area he can dig to his hearts content. Take a small area of your yard, put down sand or top soil and bury some fun toys in there. Take your dog to that area and get him interested in the area-soon he will be diggin away. If he goes to dig in your area, take him away and over to his area. When he digs in his area make sure to praise him.

Sorry for the bad news, but this is what he was bred to do :(

RE: How to quit a puppy from digging holes to your backyard? My puppy has only recently began digging up my complete backyard. She has certainly not performed that earlier than, and now there may be enormous gaping holes in every single place, what do you advise I will have to do to make her quit. I fuss at her while I seize her, however she most likely does it while nobody is round, after which while it rains, those...

The key word its ansious, is just a natural impulse that make your dog digs holes, like a person who is ansious and have a tick, you should only try to maintain the dog with a daily routine, walk and play, a good sexual life. If you don't do it will develop new ticks, like lick himself constantly and irritate his fur.

This is what terriers tend to do. Offer another hobby, stamp collecting often helps.
Or perhaps more exercise so your dog is too tired for the digging.
