my friend likes to build things so he can blow them up in his back yard, i called him a pyro but i dont think that is correct.

A pyrotechnic is someone who specializes in fireworks and explosives. A blaster is someone who legally specializes in blowing up buildings, bridges, and the like. Your friend is going to get arrested as this activity is illegal.
