Well now that is a good question!
Some churchs ask for cash to support their big fancy buildings, or pay their pastors. I live in the South and have seen some of those buildings go from little to huge elaborate in the course of a year. Like the one down on the corner from my home with the big beautiful windows that show an enormous chandolier! This church added a youth center and a young adult meeting hall too. They advertise it on the large light board in front of the church that rivals a stadiums!
Then the methodist church down the road, that added on a huge building with a bell tower and a day care center. They expanded their parking lot also.
I am sure these buildings make their worship more rewarding.
Unlike us little Wiccans who rotate from home to home each month...most of us don't have a building at all unless we are really really lucky, we each pitch in to buy candles and other things we need. We all bring a covered dish to share for our fellowship dinners.
I don't know what those big fancy church buildings have to do with faith but there sure are alot of them here in Georgia. Some of them are really huge! Must have cost a small fortune to build. It makes me think of all the hungry people that could have fed.
Blessings,
Aviana

God provides through people who donate to the church. They have faith that the Sunday collection plate will be full enough to hold over to the next week. He doesn't just make it rain money over the church every morning. But then again, that would explain why hobos hang out there.

Everything, all the gold and silver and all that we have belongs to God. Nothing belongs to us but he has entrusted us with these precious gifts. He wants to know if we can trust him with 10% or if we will steal what already belongs to him. The problem is that many think they are giving to a church but we don't give the money to a church we offer it up to Jesus as a sign of obedience and trust. Secondly, a believer should sow on good ground so you should find a church that fits your beliefs and is spiritual and sow in that church. If you belong to a bible believing christ filled church the pastor and his staff will be good stewards of the money. It's not about big fancy churches but what's wrong with the church being nice when we have football players, basketball players and celebrities living in mansions with lots of money to spend. Why should the church be poor when Jesus took proverty at the cross? There seems to be a double-standard going on.
My question is where has all the money gone that celebrites raise to rebuild New Orleans, feed the poor around the world?

God declared that 10% of income goes to Him, the Church.
That is how God provides for the needs of His Church.

Their faith is that if they give there money they would have a place to worship. Churches just dont grow out of the ground.

Just as there are physical laws that govern how things work in the physical realm, so there are spiritual laws which govern how things work in the spiritual realm.
The Christian definition of "faith" is trusting in God and his laws enough that you live your life in obedience to them.
Christians are suppose to give 10% of their income to their church. God says that as they give to him, he will increase their income so they can give more. The Bible calls it "sowing and reaping". As a Christian obeys those spiritual laws, they increase - providing for both them and the church.
So giving to the church is how God provides all that is needed, and he does it through his follower's faith.
That is what you wanted him to do, right?

All mainstream religions are both false and corrupt, they need the money to keep the likes of the Pope and his minions in a life of luxury..
I am a Pagan and my "Church" cost nothing at all to run, as it is outside with nature, like it was before in times long past, before the greed of men created religion for their own political gain and power...
Blessed Be... )O(

Exactly - why don't the church members just pray for money or for whatever they need? God should provide for His church without all the people doing it for him.
If the minister is close to God, he shouldn't have to pass the plate during his sermon.

If God's people aren't willing to answer the call then no the church would have nothing. Also it's like karma what goes around comes around. If you are willing to give to others in their time of need, then others will be willing to give to you in your time of need.
